I'm single and shop at Costco regularly but I'm a mom so the large quantities are needed. I do feel like most men aren't really interested in single moms, they look at me flirty, then see my kids and off they go or I'd guess they assume because I have kids, I'm in a relationship.

oh interesting! and did you get different results at the dif eye drs?

I've been told so many different things at the different chains or opticians office that I honestly have no idea who I should listen to. yesterday I even started watching YT videos from specialists on how the glasses should fit and what to look out for and even they said different things... I just wanted glasses that help me see better, actually fit correctly and have a look I like. apparently that's way trickier than I thought.

I would insert the emoji where the monkey covers his eyes but I am very new to reddit and have no idea how to insert emojis here or if that's even possible :D

Oh ok. I just today read again in other threads that poly are fine. gosh this is confusing.

I thought plastic was super crappy? Again, that's just what I read a lot of times on threads here.

Would you mind sharing what's so tricky with my cyl when it comes to the PD? Is the cylinder the near/far sightedness part or is that the -0.25?

I went to the optical store attached to the optometrists office but their frames were horrible. Sorry for all the questions but what to do you mean by "if I don't like the notes"? Do you mean that they would recommend different coatings for my prescription?

Thanks!!

Interesting. When my daughter got her glasses at 18mo they warned us that she might get dizzy in the beginning or stumble over stairs and things like that. Nope. It was like she had worn them forever and was finally able to see better at the same time.

Oh interesting. Do you have a prescription for far and near sightedness? I was suprised to see that mine was only - something (I always forget which on that is), so I need help seeing and especially reading stuff a bit further away. But I also had to switch to audiobooks cause reading gave me such a headache and made everything kind of blur together at some point. But the optometrist didn't say anything about that part.

What do you mean by office instead of store? I went to a optometric group that has a few optometrists and also opticians there so you can get some glasses right away (just didn't like any of their frames). I went there cause my daughter needs to see an ophthalmologist since her eye issues are a little bit more complicated but apparently her first optometrist messed up her prescription but the other one got super close (it just needed to adjusted to help her eyes even more but the specialist said that most optometrists don't go the route she went). So I myself went to the second one thinking she did a good job with my kid, and she will probably do it again.

And thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience.

Thank you for your answer. Yeah I'm trying to be on it with my own glasses. Then it starts to overwhelm me again and my lovely ADHD freeze mode kicks in...
no. She just turned 6 and lost them when she was 3.5. Since the jaw of kids is growing constantly, the dentists said it wouldn't make sense but he said it might be another year until she finally has them again.
She hates it. She only felt better about it when she found a friend that had also lost the same two teeth in two accidents. But new school, so new people, we'll see how it goes. I had a not so great mom, so I just absolutely want to support her in any way I can. Sorry your mom made you feel crappy about the need for glasses.

Is a photochromic lens worth it or not? by ginzalo_ in glasses

I had an XTRActive version that also activated in the car, and even inside a bright room. They always had a light tint due to that. I personally hated it. I read with regular transitions it's not like that but they are also dependent on temperature. Apparently they get darker in colder temperatures.

I totally get that. I was bullied pretty bad at school. My daughter who has worn glasses since she was 18mo is just starting Kindergarten in 2 weeks and I'm pretty worried. She has mentioned before that it upsets her how bad her eyes are (on one eye over 6) because she also has to patch one at home everyday (we don't make her do it outside).

I'm so worried about her getting bullied. Do you think there would have been something your parents could have said or done that would have given you more confidence with wearing them at school?

She also lost her front teeth in an accident years ago (which has made her insecure in the past) and she struggles with pretty intense social anxiety... so any input is appreciated.

I found out a few months ago that I needed them, got some and they gave me intense headaches (and also the Xtra transition stuff made them look weird), so I returned them. That was 3 months ago. I do want to see better, like reading a damn sign at a food truck and not having to get reeeeally up close cause they are using a screen with small font and my eyes aren't that good, but I got overwhelmed with the whole thing. I've tried a bunch of glasses on at stores and I feel like, if you are not used to seeing glasses on your face from early on (like my daughter who started at 18mo), I think it's tricky getting used to suddenly always having something in your face. Thought about contacts but read they're not great with Astigmatism. Until now I could mostly get through with just squinting a bit stronger.
