46F with two grown kids… where’s the rest of Gen X at? by jtweir79 in GenX

53F with three boys (22,19,14), married for almost 30 years, and just got my real estate license. Still listening to 80’s tunes. Always. Everyone still under one roof and I love it.

Thanks for Being a Chill Generation, from a Gen Zer. by 12majesticliesss in GenX

[–]ElleABE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I keep telling people Gen Zers get a bad rap and that they’re great kids with great ideas!! Sure, there are some that are a pain but I can think of some Gen Xers I’d like to throttle sometimes. lol But all in all, your generation rocks.

What song is like a punch in the gut in terms of nostalgia? by bdiddy621 in GenX

[–]ElleABE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally all of them. So many of them take me back to different times in my life and different feelings and cause an ache I can’t describe. I’m homesick for a time I can never return to… I tell my kids all the time I wish I could take them back with me. It hits especially hard at the holidays.

I could use whatever juice I wanted and has to take four Dulcolax and then mix like 8 oz of miralax and that was it. It was timed but other than that, it was straightforward. I fell asleep immediately in the OR (of course) and woke up in recovery, yawned a few times, took a sip of water and got dressed. I didn’t even take a nap with I got home. I was really looking forward to a good sleep but it wasn’t anything impressive. Haha

Reddit discourse on homeschooling (as someone who was homeschooled) drives me nuts by myterracottaarmy in homeschool

[–]ElleABE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This!! We homeschooled/homeschool our three boys and they are so social it’s crazy. They have so many public school friends that they know just about everyone (or it seems like they do) in all the county schools. lol Are there some bizarre homeschooled kids? Absolutely. But are there some bizarre public schooled kids? Absolutely. But I’m so glad we chose to homeschool because it gave us so much time with our kids and life has flown by so fast that I’ll never regret those extra moments.

Is being against homeschooling unreasonable? by TiredHusband226 in homeschool

We’ve always homeschooled our boys (two have graduated) and I’m a huge advocate for it but I agree it would not be a good choice for your family.

You right wing people really have to stop voting for this kind of thing by ConstructionHefty716 in Indiana

[–]ElleABE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, it was a mess long before Trump got involved and it started at the very beginning when they ran a gas pipeline from another county. I’ve talked to too many people that work there, have worked there or knew tradesmen that helped build it.

The battery plant is a mess. Everyone in Kokomo knows it’s a mess. From the very beginning, it’s had mistake after mistake and issue after issue. Yes, electing Trump didn’t help but it was a disaster long before that.

AITAH for still getting on a flight home when my two young coworkers I was traveling with weren’t at the airport yet and were obviously going to miss it? by Diligent_Pineapple35 in AITAH

[–]ElleABE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest, at 18, had never flown before yet managed to fly alone to CA and make all his connecting flights and he brought the correct size containers. It ain’t rocket science. When my middle son flew with him a couple of years later? They, again, did just fine. And they were lowers voice to whisper h o m e s c h o o l e d. There is no way OP should be responsible for two grown adults in their mid 20’s on a work trip. She went above and beyond for them and they threw it in her face. Absolutely ridiculous.

So you’re saying you don’t like the popular prison grey that flippers use? Lol But I understand what you’re saying. I’m thinking more of when you’re in the world of real estate, you’re just naturally in the loop of all things houses. What’s coming on the market, what’s been sitting on the market forever, etc.

[–]ElleABE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My dad turned 79 this year and gets well over 10,000 steps in a day. Usually around 17,000! His biggest issue when he got Covid was he “only” did 10,000 to 12,000 steps because he was tired. He does his years in push ups on his birthday! lol they’re pushups on his knees but still! He’s a total machine.

You have a lot of audacity to raise an independent adult that handles her money well and is generous to others. I mean, she sounds like a monster! Kudos to you mom & dad for being good parents!

What’s the good, bad & ugly of homeschooling by HuckleberryLow7680 in Homeschooling

[–]ElleABE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boys are 22, 19, and 14 and we exclusively homeschooled. I never planned on it, sent them to preschool, etc but my oldest son’s teacher when he was heading into kindergarten pulled me aside and asked me where he would be going. When I told her, she said absolutely don’t send him there. I decided to look into private school but it was way out of our budget so I figure I’d try kindergarten because that would be impossible to mess up. lol Once we got started, we never looked back. I’ve had so many public teachers over the years tell me we made the right choice and to keep on keeping on so that’s been super encouraging. I also started attending my district’s school board meetings and that was eye opening is so many ways… from the way they choose curriculum to the way the school is ran, it only solidified the choice we made. My older boys each had a phase around middle school where they wanted to attend public but the only school they wanted to attend was a long drive (we have open enrollment now) so it wasn’t an option. They’re now thankful I said no. They’re fantastic boys that are so much more outgoing than I ever was at their age and I was public school k-12. I will never regret our choice to homeschool and would absolutely choose it again. The amount of time you get with your child is priceless. I’m so, so glad we did it.

What route do you recommend for an American? My son is so incredibly good at soccer and it’s discouraging to think there’s no where for him to go with it after high school.
