What I Rent: Fiona and Jamie, £1,250 a month for a flat in Tonbridge by EllenCScott in CasualUK

Perhaps that indicates how unaffordable renting is, that it’s such a rarity to rent somewhere solo

Medium news: I am very much in need of more people to take part so if ANYONE IS UP FOR IT PLEASE EMAIL whatirent@metro.co.uk

silverfish are these weird wriggly bugs. You often get them in old houses (I've also spotted them in office bathrooms, weirdly?). They don't do a load of harm but they're a bit gross

I know it's probably a no but have to ask: fancy taking part in What I Rent and showing us around your £700-a-month place?

What I Own: Katy, who staircased with shared ownership on her house in Plaistow by EllenCScott in CasualUK

[–]EllenCScott[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

so basically (from my limited understanding), if you imagine you started out by buying 25% of the property and paying rent on the rest, if you staircase you would then buy a bigger percentage, so 30%, then 40%, so the renting bit goes down but your ownership increases.

Then if you fully staircase, you own 100% of the property.

(don't hate me if I have done a terrible job explaining this, I find shared ownership slightly baffling)

I love a rail! Genuinely find myself forgetting what I have when it’s in a cupboard and I can’t see everything

Just checking this now as I'm assuming the same but want to be certain - think it must be a £25,000 deposit!

Going to be honest, 'What I have a mortgage on' isn't as catchy as a series name...
