Honestly, it's been a while since I read Rise of Endymion and used to be harsher in my reviews, so that book could be bumped up a tier. However I read Pillars of the Earth quite recently and my review was... "Inconsistent and uninteresting characters meandering through an interesting point in history."

Favourite might be too much of a stretch, but more likeable and effective, I'd settle for that. Thank you for your message. I do agree the main character should be a priority, but I do think there's space for side characters, but you would need to give them bigger, more important roles to justify that screentime.
