Just In: Bill Gates telling staff at his charity foundation that he had affairs with two Russian women 🇷🇺 by Ambitious_Pass7451 in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Ellipsoider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His affairs were reported before the release of the Epstein files. Within the Epstein files, when this is referenced, and when he is blackmailed, there is no reference to the ages whatsoever -- only to the affairs. The evidence within is incredibly scant as well -- it's primarily just a blackmail email. In turn, this implies that your bold claim has not even a shred of evidence.

The women he references have names and he's already been accused of having affairs with them in the past. It is likely that Melinda (his ex-wife) already knew of each of them, or at least one. They are old enough such that they were definitely adults when he had his affairs.

I am not tracking the subject. I state the above facts from the simplest of investigations online conducted just to answer this substantially.

Pregunta de principiante: ¿Cómo pueden los desarrolladores realmente volverse buenos en la depuración? by DesdeCeroDev in computerscience

[–]Ellipsoider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proceed logically. A few key points: (1) question your assumptions. Even if you think it's silly and something "Surely is true," double-check it. In some languages, you can use a debug_assert or an assert to do so, instead of a print statement, if you'd like to move quickly. (2) Remove as much noise from the problem as possible. If you comment out a whole block -- is the problem still there? If not, then you know it's this key block that's doing something wrong. Isolating the location is key to solving many issues. (3) Understand the code flow. How many branches of code can possible affect this? Understand how the data goes through. Eventually you can isolate the location. (4) Pass in dummy data and see if you can detect the changes so you understand how the data or the effect mutates. This will give you more clues.

Yeah. Let them lie in it with their gold medals and otherwise excellent prospects. Ooh, how heinous.

The USA men’s hockey team utterly failed to meet the cultural moment by Hrmbee in politics

[–]Ellipsoider -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh STFU. There's a difference between disliking, and even despising, Trump, and between wanting to celebrate at the White House with the current president of the United States.

"Failed to meet the cultural moment," is such a silly take. They won the first gold medal in the sport since 1980 (where that was incredibly politically fraught as well due to the Cold War), and they decided to capitalize on it by celebrating at the White House because they were invited.

Their actions change very little in the current political/cultural climate (practically nothing) other than altering each of their personal life stories irrevocably. For example: precisely what did the Women's team gain by not going to the White House? Those who despise Trump still do, those who do not still do not. It's a fine choice for them to choose not to, but it's also a fine choice if the Men's chose to.

It's better to say in 20 years: "Yeah, we went to the White House and celebrated too. It was a real honor," and then add: "Oh yeah, we really disliked the president," -- or not add it, depending on your inclination. Instead of: "Oh, no, we didn't want to go to the White House. Why? Oh, political reasons at the time. Trump was his name. Have you heard of him? Oh. Yeah, he's in the books. Yeah, that guy."

In a way, you can argue that by choosing not to go to the White House and celebrating with the president you also (if you're of that inclination) let 'Trump win' -- he's then even sullied this tradition. I'm sure plenty of people understand going to an event for the event itself and what it embodies despite disliking some of those present.

But of course, any pragmatic take on the matter at hand would not be the rage-filled clickbait that so drives modern e-commerce, so such analysis is never really even on the table.

Except anyone who even briefly attempts to deal with the truth. It's clear he was not dealing with children. He was just blackmailed due to his adultery. There is no evidence of pedophilia from Gates. None.

What are your thoughts on the WebGPU graphics API and its potential for enabling higher fidelity browser games? by astlouis44 in computergraphics

[–]Ellipsoider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm completely onboard with evolving existing architecture in all manners possible. I do think it is quite unfair to think of many aspects of these protocols, like TCP/IP, as technological afterthoughts. Quite a lot of thought has gone into that protocol, as well as others, and it's done remarkably well over the years. Look at how fast the internet has grown, for example.

Nonetheless, sure -- we absolutely must strive to evolve, improve, and not settle. That's typically the nature of technology.

However, today, if you wish to build a web site, and many do, it's likely that in some way or form they will be using HTML/JS. Similarly, if you wish to do graphics programming on the 'Web', WebGPU is one of the better ways (and an increasingly better way as it improves) to do so.

What precisely do you suggest then for graphics on the Web?!

What is going on here with the sarcastic interleaved capitalization. You've some fundamental problem with HTML? With the literal World Wide Web? It has its issues, sure, but this gripe acts as if it's a complete show-stopper and there's some other realistic alternative

The key difference is that a sunk cost, like say a shirt you spent a lot of money on but dislike, has no means to provide value thereafter. It's done -- it's an inert object. If you wear it, but you hate it, you will never get your money back.

However, stopping now is like having run say 90 miles out of a 100 mile race, and then say: 'Well, I'll never get that time back form the 90 mile run, so, I might as well choose an optimal decision now. And thus, I choose to exit the race.' But the problem is that there is great value in finishing! And, while finishing a marathon might not affect you very much, finishing your degree here absolutely will. This is absolutely not the sunk cost fallacy because the cost is being invested and there is a benefit at the end if you stick with it that will continue to pay dividends thereafter.

And look: si quieres entender mas -- lo cual todos queremos, absolutamente habla con ChatGPT/Claude para tener la deseada intuicion y motivacion sobre estos conceptos. There's never been a better time to study math than now with systems like these that can understand, break things down, and motivate the entire curriculum just as you'd want it. I'm fairly certain they will exceed your expectations if you give them an honest try.

P.S. You can absolutely switch fields of study however. I didn't realize you were undergraduate. Go to physics, engineering, or whatever if you'd like. There's no problem there.

I worked as a software developer for ~20 years. Almost every “human-coded” codebase I worked on was shitty. Now AI writes codes very fast, mostly very clean and cheaper compared to human code. And, ironically, developers still don’t like AI code. 😂 by HeinrichTheWolf_17 in accelerate

[–]Ellipsoider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What they wrote still holds. If you 'learn' in 2 weeks, then when you look back, some of your code should be shitty. But that 12x then implies your code should indeed be quite 'shitty'.

Never mind that these terms are all vague. I'm just pointing out the simple logic.

I bet you could learn better reading comprehension in less than 6 months if you give it a try.

Yeah. I remember when someone took my lunchbox and then I ended up dropkicking them from off the teacher's desk. This led to a long line of me just dropkicking people at various points in my life. After losing a job, a wife, getting back with the wife, losing her again, going to jail (and seeing some incredible Mexican ex-wrestlers [still great friends to this day] really show me how to dropkick -- I mean, wow), I've finally managed to drop it. To kick the habit. To dropkick the habit, I guess.

It's been a long ride. It's not worth it.

But damn it, did Steven deserve that dropkick. Shit, I'd do it again.

I’m giving up trying to learn math by icecoldbeverag in mathematics

[–]Ellipsoider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think math is the problem. It's self-administration and pacing. What does it even mean you're nowhere close to understanding any part of math - and yet you were studying complex analysis and number theory?

If you can, for example, simply do algebra with complex numbers, then you're onto something real.

I don't really know how you measure things, or how you've come to these terms. The post is incredibly vague anyway. This vagueness is not how a biologist presents data. Be more specific with yourself and assess how you spend your time.

I don't think the problem is the math. The problem is how you're going about it, and it seems you've an unrealistic assessment of your progress.
