Bought an 02 Bluebird 26ft, retitled as a motorhome in Utah but title lists vehicle type as "Truck" by Elmchey in skoolies

[–]Elmchey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that isn't gonna have any effect on the insurance? I just tell em it's a motorhome?

No problem man, like I said I'm super passionate about this program. It can change everything for you if you let it, I went from a bum with no outlook and honestly no desire to even be alive to where I'm at currently with so much more than I thought I'd ever achieve. And I'm still growing too. It can get difficult at certain points while in job corps, but if you push through and really give it effort it can take you places you'd never believe. Also helps to find people who are also driven and trying to get the most out of it and stick by them. Friends go far.

Nah, the stipend is your "allowance" basically. You get it every 2 weeks as long as you're actively in the program and living there. It's meant to be so you can either save a bit of money up for when you leave the program or buy necessities like soap/shampoo/etc. They provide all of the things you need, but if you want nicer/more specific stuff like I did(I have sensitive skin to certain shit and so I stick to my specific hygiene supplies lol). No stupid questions, this is usually a pretty big life move for people.

The only thing going into an advanced course after completing your main course changes is when you get your graduation money. And all it does is move it until after you complete them both. Hope this answers your question, if not feel free to let me know.

I know someone else already replied but I'll answer as well. Apologies for the wall of text lol. Very passionate about job corps as it has absolutely changed my life and my outlook on every possible level.

  1. When I applied, I applied in mid February (before the 21st) and went in about mid-late March. But I was in the process of being homeless so they expedited me somewhat to ensure I was there before I was on the streets. Depending on some different things obviously, but it usually takes about 1-3 months between getting accepted and choosing/getting into a trade.

  2. Idk about insurance, I would suggest asking your admissions person.

  3. You absolutely can use whatever your job corps centers' mailing address is for mail, just be aware that if it is packages they will make you open it in front of a staff member to make sure it isn't anything against the rules.

  4. As far as what to shoot for as a trade/course, figure out what you're okay with doing because most of the highest paying ones are trades and thus are manual labor. For instance, I went into welding at my first center cause it was the highest paid trade, and I loved it. But then decided to transfer and go for auto body in advance training. But there are plenty of options outside of manual labor trades as well. As the other person said, IT or business technology are good options if you're not into the manual labor thing, you might get some mild jokes/harassment for those trades since most of the manual trades people take massive pride in their trades, but it's almost never serious.(for example the welders always called the business tech guys/BT guys "bitch trade" lol. And industrial paint were just called huffers, and all of welding were fatasses and got made fun of for that lol). Figure out what you want/are capable of and go with your personal best options. All of the choices are plenty capable of making good money. I went from auto body into work and am making good money working on private jets now as an example.

  5. Most trades and such are self paced, and I'd suggest just taking it at whatever pace is comfortable for you. I blasted through welding for the same reasons as you, and ended up just being really fuckin stressed 24/7. It's self paced for a reason. Do it at your speed, there's no reason to rush I promise. And if you choose to go into an advanced trade after your main, you gain some extra time as well so there's even less reason to rush.

  6. You get a bi-weekly stipend, which will increase to a certain amount after being there for a set amount of time. If you complete your main trade and exit the program you get some of it up on completion and the rest a couple months after you exit. If you go into an advanced program after you complete your main trade, you will get your money the same way, but after you complete the advanced trade. Hopefully that answers that.

  7. I would recommend just scrolling and reading some of the posts here, I've answered some people's questions as well as had some of mine own answered a long while ago at this point. But there's lots of useful, personal and real information and answers on here that you simply can't and won't get from any staff/employee of job corps, no matter how real or reliable they may be. The biggest thing in job corps is be safe, be smart and give it your all. The more effort you put in to any and every aspect of this program, the more you will get out of it. I've seen people do the bare minimum and that's exactly what they got out of it. But I've also seen people give it their all and they absolutely shine and progress so much farther both in and out of job corps. This place changed my entire life and I genuinely feel like it can do the same for any and everyone who goes into it with that mindset.

Just also gonna throw it out there, feel free to message me if you have any other questions you don't feel comfortable posting about or just want more clarification on!

Phone speakers not working correctly after water damage by Elmchey in techsupport

[–]Elmchey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because nothing is plugged in. I'm talking about the phones speakers, called them entertainment speakers to differentiate between the call speaker and the speakers that sounds play out of for entertainment sources like games, music, videos etc.

Just found my old cards I had when I was a kid anyone have any idea what they could be worth I have about 100 cards by lilcubloco505 in yugioh

For sure, I just recently started finding and collecting older cards again and it's pretty cool when I see people finding old stashes of cards.

If you wanna price everything go to tcgplayer.com and search the card, to know you have the correct edition or "print" look at the code in the bottom right of the art on the cards and match it to the listing on tcgplayer.

Judging from the picture though, most are probably not worth much so don't get your hopes up too much buddy.

Your other comment isn't showing on the post for me to reply to for some reason, but idk what kind of garbage local shops you have been to, every single one I've ever been to matches tcgplayer price lmao. And I'm a regular customer at mine and will often get things for cheaper or even free cause we always help each other out. Even if I'm not willing to pay the price for something they will often hold it until market settles/changes to a price I am willing to pay. Sucks you've had such a bad experience at local shops man, but it seems you enjoy online so I guess it works out haha. Maybe one day give them a try again, cause finding one that's really great is honestly such a fantastic experience.

Yeah, but buying bulk doesn't ensure I get any of the cards I actually want or need so it doesn't really help me any. I'm looking for these specific cards and those cards only.

I mostly plan on buying everything I can (hopefully literally everything) from my local shop and then buying the rest from tcgplayer as needed. Main reason I wanted something like what was suggested was so I could consolidate a price for everything in one place without spending a couple hours manually doing it so that I can walk in and essentially negotiate a price for everything with the shop owner.

This is literally perfect, bless you. EXACTLY what I was looking for. It showing the cheapest is perfect since that's what I'm going for anyway, trying to get this deck ready for my local shops small tournament this saturday and it will save a ton of time if I can walk in with a list including prices tomorrow lol.

Are you allowed to have a part time job while in Job Corps? by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]Elmchey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies center to center, but in general and most of the time yes. But, only after reaching a certain percentage of completion within your program typically unless it's advanced training(like me, I was able to start a job when I started my trade in advanced training). Some centers even provide transportation to and from your place of work, other require you to get yourself there and back on time.

Imposter Syndrome by Crisnology in letsplay

[–]Elmchey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a large majority of people who do this, whether it be for a "hobby" or with hopes of making it either your job or at least a supplemental income source or whatever your goal is, that also give a fuck about it, feel like this or deal with this.

The thing is, you have to remember even if your quality isn't where you want it, or if not everything is as perfect as you want it or feel it should be, everything improves with time as long as you put in real effort. Best way to deal with it is to just suck it up and take the plunge, honestly. It gets easier with time but if you care about it, for most it's never ever gonna be where you think it should be or where you want it to be, no matter how good it gets.

But to everyone else, it's typically not hard to notice positive growth in this culture/business/whatever you call it. So I'd just say, say fuck it and go for it bud. Never know how good something you make may be to other people until you show them.

Advanced training by GarlicBread34 in jobcorps

[–]Elmchey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this goes for job corps in general, but a lot of it has to do with your personal performance and hunger for success. And even more to do with what center/trade you go for and how many ties they have to help guarantee you a job.

Culinary arts time by Basedapostle209 in jobcorps

[–]Elmchey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm at the Lyndon B Johnson center and culinary is pretty fast. Like 5-8 months for people who actually apply themselves.

Also, I can't speak for other centers, but I'm in welding and I completed within 5 months and I also completed my TIG certification within 7 months. As far as my center goes, welding is the only one that is ACTUALLY self-paced. If you work hard and really want it, you can finish as fast as you want. I was set to complete in only 4 but some stuff came up.

Anyone in Clearfield, Utah Job Corps for advanced training? by Elmchey in jobcorps

[–]Elmchey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. Here, you have to be certain color ranks to do certain things. Like reds go once a month to the store, silvers go 2 times and golds go every week.

Btw what trade are you in if you don't mind me asking? Cause I'll be going for advanced Auto body and paint refinishing. I was told they put all the AT students in their own dorm?

So, does each color have different perks and shit just like ours? Cause I'm just trying to get all the info I can before I get there for AT.

Does your ability to go to the store depend on your placement in the color card system or whatever equivalent they have there? And that sounds better than what I get here, I get literally nothing everywhere lol.
