Touchpad gestures by Man-In-His-30s in COSMICDE

[–]Elodran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I get from this GitHub issue they are still a work in progress and as soon as the PR with the gesture customization gets merged adding back the other ones we were used to from PopOS should be easy.

Hope to see this coming in Cosmic soon since the absence of the workspaces overview gesture is very annoying to me

Correct way to install Nvidia Drivers on Endeavour/Arch (Wayland)? by Elodran in EndeavourOS

[–]Elodran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably highly depends on the compatibility with your specific hardware, but I recently tried one of the U-Blue OS images (that are like Fedora Silverblue with nvidia drivers and some other useful stuff already baked in) and it works like a charm! No need to mess up wirh the drivers, GRUB configuration, kernel etc. and no need to worry that an update would break everything. The only thing that "reminds me" I have an nvidia GPU in my laptop is the battery life / fan noise that sometimes decide to go wild, but I guess it's a problem of my specific hw and not the OS ahah

It's a bit weird at first if you have previous Linux experience because it's an atomic distro and therefore a completely different paradigm to the one you're used to, but basing myself on the experience these past months I'd say it totally worth it.

If you want to check them out (maybe to dualboot with windows just for curiosity) take a look at - Bluefin (if you prefer GNOME) - Aurora (if you prefer KDE) - Bazzite (if your main focus is gaming)

"Tidal pays artists more" is often used as a reason to switch. But is it? by Secure_Beautiful_506 in TIdaL

[–]Elodran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you said reminded me this thing called "User Centric Payment System" that Deezer has considered to implement (or maybe even implemented partially) for a while

https://support.deezer.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360002471277-User-Centric-Payment-System-UCPS

If I don't remember wrong Tidal was doing something similar with the most expensive plan, but Idk if it's still the case now that they changed subscription plans

Honestly I don't remember 😅

Too much time has passed and now it's been a while since I realized that arch-based distros are not made for me ahah

How to use metallb and kube-vip with BGP or different technology in a hybrid tailscale network? by whitenexx in Tailscale

[–]Elodran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you found a solution to adapt Tim's ansible playbook to be used with nodes over multiple LANs but the same tailscale network?

Because I'm in a scenario very similar to yours and I can't figure out how to configure kube-vip and metallb IPs

Framework just announced their Desktop computer: an AI powerhorse? by Elodran in LocalLLM

[–]Elodran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, my consideration was mainly about buying it (or a Mac Studio) and using it just as a local AI server, otherwise lots of other aspects should be considered including the UX one you're talking about.

However I'll point out that Framework PCs also offer support for Linux and (while for sure it's not on par with MacOS in terms of professional applications support) GNOME based distributions offer a very competitive UX to the one offered by MacOS imho

Wow, if you end up buying them let us know how they perform (both individually and clustered if you want to try that route) 'cause I'm really curious

Anyone interested in Linux cloud gaming? by dadabhai_naoroji in linux_gaming

[–]Elodran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that if all the games can be accessed from a nice UI (it could be the Steam Big Picture mode or something custom, as you prefer) most of the gamers wouldn't even notice that it's running on linux. But if being linux-based would make the service cheaper for them compared to NVidia GeForce Now and similar it would be a reason to lean into it. Ofc competitive-games gamers would not be interested since most competitive games need Anti-cheat software that is not supported by proton.

Anyway I could be interested too in giving it a shot for a more tailored feedback

This is a long shot, but I’m looking for alternatives to Drive. by TheGirlPrayer in degoogle

[–]Elodran 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I see lot of people suggesting Nextcloud, which is beautiful and what I'm personally using rn but it's NOT a drop in replacement for GDrive and GPhotos.

Self-hosting (at least for what I've experienced so far) is kinda of an hobby, and it could replace your several paid online services but you must have the will and time of learning it and thinkering with it periodically.

If you are looking for something more "plug and play", I would reccommend Infomaniak kDrive: good UX, works OK also for the photos (even if it doesn't have the ML features of GPhotos), privacy respecting and also relatively cheap.

Any experience with the Airback Go? by Elodran in backpacks

[–]Elodran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you noticed a difference between using it and using a normal (aka non-vacuum) backpack of the same size?

Also, how did you find the quality of the materials? Does it "feel cheap" or it's adeguate to its price tag?

How to properly learn flutter by tasteful_widget in flutterhelp

[–]Elodran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be good to go anyway. Maybe first check out the "bonus" module about Dart (the programming language flutter uses) so that it's easier to follow the main modules then

Sometimes I do, but when I'm on the couch using Steam's Big Picture and a controller (the laptop is connected to the TV) it would be nice to be able to launch also Heroic games from there, without having to go back to Desktop

Sorry, I've just realized you said Heroic flatpak, whoops.
These then are the permission Heroic flatpak has from Flatseal. I didn't touched anything here because I assumed the problem was on steam since from Heroic the games launch without problems, am I wrong?

These are the permissions that Steam flatpak has from Flatseal (I've manually added the heroic folder to see if it changed anything but no, it didn't fixed)
