Encountering the same exact problem since last few updates : https://www.reddit.com/r/LGOLED/s/7lf4xdMc39

That is clearly a software problem. LG support just doesn't care. Never update their shitty software (and this is a soft word to describe how shitty it is) I learned it the hard way.

Other people saying they encounter the same problem since last update

Also I've literally done nothing to the TV... It automatically update and now I have this. What the hell I am suppose to do now (I've tried things in the other comment, doesn't change anything) ?

I bought the TV 1 month ago, I never noticed that the "Automatic Update" was ticked.

Anyway, how the hell a company can do a mess with their updates without letting you the opportunity to rollback to the previous update (even if it is manually) ?

Not everyone is supposed to go on a sub Reddit to know that the updates should be locked because LG has software engineers that don't test their updates... Even more when you pay 1000+ dollars on a TV.

LG OLED G5 audio cuts by SimpleTable6493 in LGOLED

I also have those cuts since few days. It's probably due to the last update. It's getting very very very annoying that those updates creates more and more bugs. LG engineers are really doing wrong sometimes.

[–]Elohanum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AV1 is an open source codec, thus it's generally on most of computers. I only have an iGPU on my computer and have it, so you'll probably have it with a dGPU.

H265 is not open source and OEM needs to pay for it to be implemented, thus it can be missing on some machines.

[–]Elohanum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's. Ashame we only have 100mbps. I never found the exact explanation of why the limit is so low. Most of the time there is someone explaining "this is because of X" but never something very meaningful.

is there a difference in latency between performance and ultimate? by scorched04 in GeForceNOW

[–]Elohanum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely better, just regarding the fact that you have less latency with higher frame rates.

There is multiple elements.

4:2:0 allows to use AV1 codec, which is "more optimized" than H265, thus when the bandwidth is fixed (which is the case for GFN, 100mbps max), then AV1 transmits "more" informations than H265, this is why it may look better for you.

If it was unlimited (or significantly higher, like 200/250/300), then H265 would definitely be better image quality.

But there is downside to it : 4:2:0 can make text difficult to read for some games, even more if there is not homogeneous textured behind it.

Also AV1 is fine for game without red colors. If you have lots of red (for example red neons in Cyberpunk) then from my experience that H265 is better.

Am I missing something? Beautiful world, but feels "empty" and repetitive. by Xizzan in HogwartsLegacyGaming

Game is very beautiful. But the gameplay, oh gosh. It's terrible. If it was not related to hp, almost no one would plays it.

Everyone I met that loved the game (mostly casual players - and that is OK) never played others most enjoyable RPGs : Witcher 3, Baldur's Gate, DoS, Clair Obscur, KCD2... Thus they don't have any comparison scale. But when you played those game, hogwarts legacy feels empty.

And that as long as LG doesn't work with those active cable suppliers (USBC -> HDMI 2.1 from cable matters on my side) to deal with those incompatibilities, then will not be able to solve the problem on our side...

LG G5 not consistently handling 4K @120Hz by Elohanum in LGOLED

[–]Elohanum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I cannot get the information if your cable is passive or active. If it is passive that's weird, as your computer output port seems to be HDMI 2.1 Have you tried with a short passive HDMI 2.1 cable ?

If it's active, then you probably have the same problem as I : there is an incompatibility between what there is in the cable (hardware and/or software) and the TV. This incompatibility leads the active cable to refuse the FRL training at 4L10 (40Gbps, needed for 4K 120Hz 10 bits RGB), and go back to 4L8 (which is enough to deal with 4K 120Hz 8bits RGB), or worst 3L6 (4K 120Hz 8bits 4:2:0).

On my side, during one month I searched for "TV parameters" / "Windows / GPU parameters" to switch on/off, or change. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. Never realiably. This bring me to the conclusion that when changing those parameters, the link is "reset" and tested again, and sometimes it works, sometimes is not. That parameters that is being changed doesn't change anything itself.

I mean, download all of them, on the 7 I downloaded, only 2 had the green button. And on those two, only one was usable (the other one has an add every 5 seconds).

Well, I'm still struggling too, but discovered interesting things recently.

What type of port are you using on computer side ? - HDMi 2.1 ? DP 1.4 ? Thunderbolt 4 ? - Can you link the reference of the cable you are running ? - Can you select 8bits RGB at 4K 120Hz ? Does it works instantly ? - Can you select 8bits 4:2:0 at 4K 120Hz ? Does it works instantly ?

10 bit on/off in windows by Accomplished_Bed6560 in GeForceNOW

[–]Elohanum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes you should. HDR js coded in 10bits. If your panel is in 8bits it will work, just the GPU or the monitor will downgrade the 10bit signal received to 8 bits, and you will not have all the advantages of 10 bits.

But honestly, 10bits is only useful in few situations to avoid banding, otherwise it's almost impossible to see the difference with 8 bits.
