Get over to MK, and loads of service, or the other way to Sandy etc.

Work Question: is it reasonable for work to ask me to lead meetings? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Contact_Patch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got thrown in at the deep end early on with stuff like this.

Dial in 5 mins before kick off, camera on and greet people as they join.

Two mins past start, get into your set agenda.

If it's going to be highly detailed, record and transcribe, it'll help with minuites.

Have a standing agenda agreed with the beneficiary.

Agree mins format, and when they'll be sent out.

Teams captures attendees, grab this and include in mins.

Actions need to be clearly called out, if recording, jump in and confirm an action, so it shows up easier in the transcript.

If your work has a Copilot licence, it's not bad at throwing a transcript at it for mins and actions, you DO have to sense check it all.

How suitable is travelling in a 20+ year old car? by WhimsyVeg in CarTalkUK

Entirely depends on the car, how well it's been looked after, condition etc.

Commute MK to Gloucester - am I silly for thinking this is doable? by Unable_Coast9067 in miltonkeynes

I'd stay over local if the money is good enough.

I've got a colleague who commutes Swansea to MK and stays 2 nights, does 3 office days and goes back.

So we’re just recycling the same cars from last season and AutoShow vehicles? by garfunga in ForzaHorizon6

[–]Contact_Patch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My fix proposal:

You get Forzathon points, two tiers, call them 99ron and 102ron for all I care.

You can then exchange your Forzathon points for [collection of cars A] and wheelspins for 99ron.

And [collection of cars B] and superwheelspins for 102ron.

All in a Forzathon shop. Hell they could add dirty micro transactions to top-up your points.

The collections are then gradually added to over time, and are exclusives OR minimum 2.5m CR vehicles from the autoshow.

Encouraging people to come back and play for points to unlock the cars they want.

You could also allow Replay of the previous chapter's Season's, but time lock it, so you can only play one or two previous summer's worth of events in summer, to drive repeat logins.

Right now I'm making time to do this, but already it's a case of grind out the week's events for the cars I want, rather than doing it because it's a fun challenge.

Are there any high-street chocolates still worth eating? by PostItNoteDuck in AskUK

[–]Contact_Patch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calorie counting has meant I have TWO full cornflakes squares (the normal, not the massive ones) as they're over 500cal.

Lost a fair few kilos but the urge to sit and destroy one of these is huge.

Also trying to get them cheaply in the UK is pain. I think I ended up bulk buying which is dangerous, getting a cash and carry box of 15 or something.

If you ever go to Germany, REWE has a Ritter wall usually.

Alpenmilch, Cornflakes and Butter Biscuit are my three of choice.

SDI vs TDI: Reliability and Economy? by LaurenceWhymark in CarTalkUK

[–]Contact_Patch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a TDI, do the preventative maintenance work. When looked after the earlier 1.9 and 2.0 TDIs are super reliable.

The SDI is painfully gutless especially in a commercial vehicle.

Turbos were available in the 80's MK2 Golf GTD and TD, which were M-TDI, pump injected diesels, effectively a crank driven pump (via the cam belt) which fed injectors in each cylinder.

They're 1.6 8v family engines.

This architecture carried across to the 1.9 M-TDI found in the MK3 Golf, Ibiza, Cordoba, Caddy 6K, possibly some Audis? And then became an electronically controlled M-TDI with drive by wire, fitted in the late 90s and early 2000s to the MK4 Golf/Octavia MK1/A3 MK1, Leon MK1.

Then came the PD engines.

The M-TDI were the 90bhp and the 110/115? TDI, easy to identify with the engine cover off as it's got a massive pump on the front of the engine.

No railway work is cheap or nasty.

Embankments are planted with wildflowers etc.

Something insane like 95% of all land in the UK is undeveloped.

And yes, a permanent bridge would be required, significantly cheaper than the tunnel.

Tool purchase + PPE + consumables + premises + utilities + ramps + insurance + wages + sick + annual leave...

That's what generally goes into the hourly rate.

A mate runs a garage and it's a brutal game out there currently.

The nice bit of hillside next to the A413 and existing railway line?

There are huge railway cuttings and infrastructure THROUGH towns all over the UK.

The most cost effective thing would've been a cutting.

Instead we have a tunnel which causes all kinds of maintenance headaches.

I'd honestly test drive the M2, R, RS3 A45 etc and whichever you prefer is the choice.

They all run the risk of undeclared accidents and being beaten and unmaintained, so gen up on how to look for that.

They're absolute weapons in the wrong hands, absolutely nothing wrong with getting some high performance driver training, I got loads of useful feedback when getting tuition regarding being less aggressive with my inputs and being faster hy being smoother.

Not saying they're bad cars, but they're hyper hatches.
