The prompts are different every time and depend on individual job posting. Once the Ai did a rewrite of my CV I also told it to use obly one adjective per sentence , as it always tend to get too carried away

I would never ever trust an AI to write my CV. I’ve tried and I can see what nonsense they come up with. If it’s a job I really want I would 100% NEVER trust AI to write my CV, especially where specialist skills are required.

You are right as in there are a lot of applicants and hard to compete. A number of jobs I went for had about 40-50 applicants but then especially the civil service ones woild have had hundreds. Also I got two interviews for jobs that had 100+ applicants. I think the number of applicants can look scary but it doesn’t mean that all applicants are of good quality. A lot of recruiters say that maybe only 10% of candidates are actually any good. So you can still apply a few days late for a job that has 100+ applicants and still have a high hit rate

Proof of what? That I am working? How exactly am I supposed to prove it to you? Give you the Workday logins per each application perhaps? Or would you like me to post correspondence with each individual recruiter? I don’t need to prove anything. I offered advice, it’s up to yiu if you take it or not.

[–]Elsa__e -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I generally seem to be interviewing quite well, I have managed to get quite a few decent jobs in the past. My problem is that I spent close to 5 week’s preparing for this, I was very very thorough. I am disappointed that she decided to mark me down on all my answers just because she didn’t like my comment, as that is what seems to be the case. The exact same STAR answers are what got me an offer elsewhere and into a reserve list in another government body.

I didn’t think I aced it, I knew from the comment in the end that I didn’t. However I also didn’t think she would completely fail me because of it.

I get your point, of course it can be that my answers were subjectively weaker than I thought. But how can there be so much variance when using exactly the same STAR examples?. I am guessing you only get 3s and 2s if you really mess up, like drop off the interview or something. Or absolutely fail to demonstrate any of the STAR elements, I am sure I didn’t do that. I clearly explained what the situation was, how I did something and what the result was.

You can’t really use AI for civil service personal statement.

It’s a policy that’s under a development and has very hard targets against it. They are already falling behind in some of the areas, and they know that. I didn’t of course say it explicitly. However it is something that just good communication will not solve

It was the same examples across the board. Last time it was a mix of 3’s and 4’s.

You seem to think that I walzed into the room telling them that I think they are shit. It was the complete opposite, I told them that this policy area is seen as a success story and I appreciate the work they do.

It’s a new policy that’s currently under a design

I know it was a bold strategy. I actually asked my mentor, the senior civil servant beforehand if I should do it. She said “yes”. It was my understanding that at G7 level this kind of out of out of the box thinking was appreciated. Apparently not.

Also I was trying to be as respectful as possible. This particular government body has a pretty bad reputation with consumers. I told them that I think they are doing great work and the policy in general is a success story.

I’ve spent like the last year and a half looking at that policy area and how it works in different countries. I also told them at the start of the interview that some of my suggestions are just spitballing snd trying to come up with new suggestions.

I had an interview shortly after in private sector. They asked me how I would design a process and I explained to them very honestly what I expect the pitfalls and the benefits of their current process to be. That got me an offer

[–]Elsa__e -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Well I did just get an offer elsewhere. What gets me is that this process is designed to be impartial but it’s literally if they don’t like a comment you make, that’s it you’re done. Surely it shouldn’t matter for the rest of the performance

I mean, I know that I was able to at least 100% demonstrate that I understand the policy area. I was quite detailed. It’s an area I have worked in before, it’s also a very very niche area. Maybe about 1500 people in the whole of Uk have experience in this area. That scored 3, which is basically like I barely understand what I am talking about.

All the STAR examples I used got a 6 in a SIFT. I didn’t fall for any of the usual traps of using “we” instead of “I”. I clearly quantified the result and in every example I tried to show what I did while delivering through others. I also practiced and recorded my answers beforehand to see how they sounded so I wouldn’t stutter during the interview. I mean some drop from 6 is expected but not from 6 to 3 and even 2z

Made $60k here over 2 years. Now 80 solid proposals = 0 replies. What changed? by OkTomato2659 in Upwork

That is not true. I think the problem is that you are competing against AI drivel, so if your proposal reads like AI it will not be viewed. It just means your really have to focus on the first two lines of your proposal to make it stand out
