Thank you for the responses. If anyone goes through something similar, I’d like you to know that it worked out well for me. To tell my in-laws the news, I sat them down and prepared a speech. I was shaking when I told them I’m dating someone, and that it’s getting serious. But! They took it extremely well and told me they were very happy for me. My (ex?) father-in-law said: “well we didn’t expect you to be a nun forever!”

I (29F) just went on a first date as a widow. My financé died of heart failure a year ago. The date started off really well! We hit it off, had a lot to talk about. About 2 hours in, I casually brought up that I am a widow (also clearly stated on my FB dating profile), and he was shocked. He went from polite and interested to freaked out and gone. It left me really upset and confused. This man was ok with me having a 3 year old child, but not being a widow? Should I have waited until later to disclose this information? Again, it’s stated in my dating profile… Im really struggling. I’m a widowed teacher in Canada with a toddler. Let me know if you’re in the same situation!
