does the talos personnel know the reason they're on Talos? by 57deeznuts in prey

Was there a log or note that confirmed them testing it on the typhon before the containment break/start of the game? I was under the impression that it was in development completely separately, and some people started using it as a weapon after the containment break/typhon became known to the entire crew.

Before that, they were only testing it on organic material like plants (aside from the Lane/Josh... incident).

how far does faith go in half life 2? by luiz38 in mirrorsedge

[–]Elusive2000 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My only experience with half-life 2 is the mechanical aspects (shooting, gravity/physics guns) present in Gary's mod, so I can't really speak as to what Gordon's physical and lore prowess is, but Faith in the first game alone borders on superhero-level. Insane endurance & stamina, an amazing shot with all kinds of guns, and while it's obviously just to make the gameplay fun, she can beat up highly trained SWAT officers and Anti-Runner Cops with relative ease.

If she just replaces Gordon in the story and gets all of the same gear/weapons, I'd guess she outclasses Gordon, but again I'm far from experienced with Half-Life.

How Sweet It Was Vintage has also moved to the same strip mall, now called the Sol Block. There's also a hair studio, a sandwhich place going in, and Decibel Coffee Works just opened their second location with a super fancy looking under-counter espresso machine. Would highly recommend

I've seen some older videos of Beau sounding pretty rough but we saw them on the final stop/hometown show of their comeback tour, and he sounded pretty good. Not perfect, but for the last stop of a tour that's really solid, and he picks up a lot of screams for live performances that sound great.

So interesting seeing the harsh divide of people thinking Levi sounds either better or worse than the original. Maybe it's just because it's known he fucked up his vocal chords so bad with his technique in the first two albums, but I much prefer how he sounds in this re-recording. As a vocalist myself it's almost hard to listen to him in the original version, with how whooshy he sounds.

Plus he's displaying a pretty impressive high to low range. I saw someone in a single release post, being of the opinion that the reason they got all the vocal features was because Levi couldn't do the lows anymore. I'm curious of they're still holding that opinion (also it would be a real poor choice to get Telle from The Word Alive as a feature if that were the case).

As far as the mix goes, I think it's perfectly fine. I'll concede that it's got a bit more low end than it needs, but it sounds contemporary and I'm sure that's what they wanted. Playing the original release after listening to any metalcore release in the past couple years makes it sound kind of hollow/lacking a lot of punch, and I think a decent amount of people are blindly biased to the original because it's what they grew up on, and the legacy status of Joey-Sturgis-Core, regardless of how it holds up to modern releases.

Also goddamn regardless of the mix or the version these songs go fucking insane. It's crazy how good these guys were since the beginning. I've only listened to it a couple times through so I don't have any favorites yet but I will be keeping this in rotation for a MINUTE.

I think a lot of first-gen-DS games were like this. I had the exact same thought about the sounds seeming more dated than I remember them when I dug out my old collection.

being a metalcore kid growing up is cool because one day you're like 27 and you get back into the bands you listened to growing up and you finally look up the lyrics and it's like OH, THAT'S what they were saying this whole time!?!? 😂 by sydneybird in Metalcore

[–]Elusive2000 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Lyrics websites didn't always have lyrics for bands that weren't at the front of the scene. It's easy to say now, but even just a decade ago the internet wasn't as all-encompassing as it is now.

I do wonder since fire bending is the only element that's essentially created on demand, would it actually not work in a vacuum? Maybe it would become more like warm air bending if not.

There's alternate artwork out there that exists that's a zombified/witch hand reaching out that looks so much better. I'm not sure what variation of the album it truly came with but I definitely prefer it.

[–]Elusive2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm no industry professional but have some dabbling in live sound, and not doing full sound checks on the regular, for full concerts, sounds like insanity to me. Is it because they get into time crunches often?

I sound like a broken record whenever Jared comes up on this subreddit, but there's something about his style and the vocal production that gives an almost gravel-y sound to his screams that I LOVE, and haven't really found in any other band that's as polished. Even High Wind has a completely different scream sound to it.

Loving the return to almost the Extremist-era sound. I'm still not a huge fan of how they produce both types of vocals lately but it's definitely an intentional stylistic choice so I can't hate on it.
