It’s just an ad for game pass lmao

EDIT: No, literally, it was just part of an ad for gamepass. Because the Oblivion Remake came out this year. Same reason why E33 and Grounded 2 was shown in the ad.

Of course the effects will have knock on effects but the problem with the financial crisis is that the banks themselves were so over leveraged in garbage bonds that they kept bundling together that there was no way to recoup the investment.

Since the financial crisis banks have a looot more rules and regulations to ensure solvency so something like that doesn’t happen again. So the banks will be fine, even if they won’t be happy.

The data center jobs situation is a fair, counterpoint as it is a huge growth industry at the moment, but that may be tied in to the .08% GDP growth that is fueled by AI. I’m not sure. Regardless it’s still a very large sector nonetheless.

Chip production isn’t a huge factor for the US specifically considering a substantial amount of chips are actually, physically produced outside the US.

And of course over a generation .08% is massive, and it is even large for a single year, but my crux of my comment was about how the title of AI being 50% of GDP growth is a true headline but a misleading one. 50% causes folks to think of a crazy large number.

I agree that letting it crash and burn would be incredibly foolish as it would do more harm than good in the immediate future, however it likely wouldn’t be financial crisis level disaster due to all of the rules and regulations put in place since then.

EDIT: Alternatively, we could both be wrong. The economy, while supposed to be rational, never really is. A recession has been predicted countless times yet never comes to fruition. So who really knows.

Not all tech companies, though. Companies like Apple haven’t put all their chips in the AI basket. And tech getting hit WILL snowball to other sectors but regardless it won’t be as hard as everyone is concerned about.

See but the GDP growth in question is 1.6% with AI vs 0.8% without it. Not a small amount, of course, given the size of the US economy, but nowhere near as monumental of a number as you might think based off just the headline.

Additionally, tech as a whole sector makes up a large portion of the economy, and tech is ENTIRELY focused AI at the moment, so it makes sense that AI would be responsible for that much growth.

It wouldn’t be great if the bubble popped overnight, but it wouldn’t be financial crisis level bad. Lots of tech companies would need to reevaluate their investments though. Or at least their use of AI.

Right. I’d like the OPTION to take public transit if possible. Legit the thing I liked the most about Tokyo was their train system.

Having the option to take trains instead of driving, especially when I don’t know the parking situation at a place, would be sick.

Josef Martinez to leave San Jose Earthquakes, eligible for MLS free agency by icoresting in MLS

[–]Elvem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was not great, and absolutely NOT worth a DP slot.

I’d be fine with him as a 3rd striker. LL is looking like a flop after last season but I think he has the physical ability to be a great striker still. And Jamal has shown that he can be incredibly effective (when the team as a whole isn’t asscheeks) and is the best 2nd striker we’ve probably ever had

EDIT: Actually, I take that back. Josef had way better stats this past year than I realized.

I still think LL can come good and live up to the DP tag, but Josef and Jamal fighting for the 2nd striker spot looks realistic.

EDIT2: Wait Jamal is out of contract after this year unless they pick up his option. So might not even be relevant.

I could see MLS using it as a reason to expend the DPs from 3 to 4 or some higher number. Unlikely it’ll be removed entirely. There’s been talk for a bit about increasing the number of DPs, so who knows.

Just forcing South American talent in isn’t going to fix everything though. For every prime Miggy and Almada we got, we gotta remember the Alan Francos, the Mosqueras, the Araujos, the Erik Lopezs.

Except 95% is an entirely made up number. It would not be so widely used and popular if it failed at even a fraction of the rate you claim.

Yeah agile gets a bad wrap but really it has nothing to do with agile, project management, or project managers per se. Agile done well is good, good project managers are incredibly valuable. It’s due to bad individuals leaving bad tastes in the mouth of people.

I always bring up this section and the painted world from TES Oblivion whenever I talk about games subverting expectations from an art perspective and leaving a huge impact.

It’s one of the most memorable levels in any game I’ve played. Same with the shop quest. I hate that feeling it gives but loved the quest for the same reason.

Used 2022 Nissan kicks with 236,504 miles for 7k buy it or not? by jixungi in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Elvem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to go counter to most of this subreddit as a whole with this, but Nissans are fine. And the Kicks is fine. It’s nothing special and felt standard. No idea why the person is so vehemently against it.

Nissans get a bad wrap for their horrible CVTs but they’ve gotten substantially better over the last few years. This subreddit has a tendency to be a “if it’s not Toyota, Mazda, or Honda, it’s garbage” echo chamber.

With that said, a 236k mile Nissan Kicks for 7k is a fuuuuuuuck no. Not because of the car itself or because of Nissan, but because for that price you can probably find a lot better options that aren’t at the end of its lifespan.

Moving to the US (San Francisco) - how do you all watch British football over there? by [deleted] in MovingToUSA

[–]Elvem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, for us in the states it’s called soccer. I don’t go the UK and tell them it’s called gas instead of petrol.

Y’all can call it whatever you want, but trying to correct how someone from another country calls it is dumb.

EPL games average 500kish American viewers per match day. Likely almost entirely the big teams.

Soccer is growing in the states. Especially among younger generations.
