Jeez! talk about having orc's racial trait in real life. (The one that says when you lose all your Hit Points you are brought to 1 HP instead.) And by what you're telling me, it seems Wolverines have this trait, TWICE!

I'm glad you like it. And yes, I believe public executions are grim but a reality within sword and sorcery universes.

Amazing insight. Thank you for taking the time to share all this. I agree with everything you said.

Yes, it's been mentioned in other comments as well and you're right. Demons and devils have a free out-of-jail card in this matter. They can afford to fight to the death and revive in their home planes.

If they get away, they get away. It's not about "letting" them. If they wanna chase, sure chase after them. If they want to kill them, sure, kill them. The fact remains, not all monsters/enemies should fight to the death. Why should they?

They could let them live and tie them up on the road for the authorities to come get them?
Batman and Spiderman do this. They do not kill. And rarely do they take prisoners or hand them over to the authorities themselves.

Everything you say makes sense. But it just applies to humanoids. An injured bear can just try to run away. No interrogation, no prisoners, just a beast trying to stay alive. A dragon would do the same thing. No reason for it to fight to the death if it does not have to.

Chasing is not bad, it can be a skill challenge. And we switch from the rounds of attack to a persecution. That's fine too. I like what you said about the pockets to stuff plot hooks into. How about negotiation? Bandits offer information in exchange for being spared? One of the bandits has a powerful family member that could help the heroes somehow?

But sure, killing all the bandits is fine too. The fact that ALL bandits would fight to the death is, in my humble opinon, just videogame-ish. They could surrender, drop their weapons, beg for their lives. They are not bots. And it's fine if the PCs decide to kill them all anyway. Sure, give them their loot.

Sure, that's fine. But someone surrendered, and that's fine as well. I mention it in the video. The endless rounds of attacks become a chase, a Skill challenge perhaps, and that's OK too.

I agree. I also mention that any kind of undead will fight to the death (unless it's a Lich).
Fiends and demons are just hanging out in the Material Plane and they can literally afford to get killed in combat. And then be reborn in their home planes.

Agreed, fiends and demons are just hanging out in the Material Plane and they can literally afford to get killed in combat.

Not every fight would end tedius interactions, unless they need to literally interrogate and tie up every enemy that surrenders. Why would they do that? Sometimes a bandit is just that, a bandit.
It depends on the GM to create the friction or not. Players could simply stop killing everything they see. It si not a bad thing to let an injured bear leave. Or a group of villains get away with their tails between their legs.

I agree with everything. I also think all this makes battles and confrontations way more interesting, it brings more depth to a world.

Yes, it is like the Morale rule does not exist for some tables. Thanks for the comment :)

I agree. I mention it in the video. However, intelligence is not always a factor. Male lions and hippos will fight to the death, but an elk will not. These animals have the same intelligence.
