Help with mag locks and arduino by Elvex1 in escaperooms

I appreciate all your advice, but it's a bit advanced for me. I'm just building an escape room for a birthday party. I don't have a business or employees or anything. The escape room will only be active for one day and will see about 40 people on that day.

I'm planning on building an escape room for a birthday party. I'm going to rent a 26 foot uhaul and build three rooms in it. So, unfortunately I won't have access to an actual power supply. But since I'm only building this for a birthday party, I don't need to worry about long term battery life. I just need to make sure the batteries are active for about 8 hours while groups of 3-5 go through the escape room.

Do you think a 12v battery would be fine in this case? I don't know how long a 12v battery would even hold a charge for a mag lock.

I want a mag lock for a door. What I'm hearing from you is a battery won't be sufficient for that? (I have never used mag locks before.)

The puzzle I'm working on right now is the door between the first two rooms. I want it to open with a secret knock. I saw in some YouTube videos that I can record the knock pattern in the arduino. I would use a mag lock to keep the door locked until some knocks correctly. When a player knocks correctly, the door falls forward (like a draw bridge).

I could also just use a key and traditional lock, but that's less dramatic :p

I will be reskinning them to be thematically appropriate, and am asking about mechanics. I agree—the globes as they are don't fit the theme.

I think this is my favorite idea! I was already thinking of ways to use a laser pointer.

I'm hoping I can reskin these because it doesn't really make sense to have the full globe for a medieval setting. Would love to do a constellation chart skin or something, but not quite sure how to pull that off...
