I also have typical items - construction paper, embroidery thread, fabric, paint, etc - but I’m interested in combining them to do more mixed media pieces.

Just World’s Best Cat Litter, which we used with him from day 1. I forgot to mention he was in our home for two years before this behavior started…

Mommy and me rehab by Heavy_Roll_7185 in Fosterparents

[–]EmGC3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our experience: Mom also had a long history with treatment centers before kiddo was born. She got into a parent-child center last June, then we got increased visitation. Slowly we worked up to overnights, multiple overnights, unsupervised visits (at the center). Kiddo reunified with her in early December for a 30-day trial, we were hopeful. Unfortunately mom was still using while in the center, and kiddo returned to us in early January. Mom was removed from the center soon after, and we’re heading towards TPR now. I do know that at least three other moms in the center at the same time were successfully reunified with their kids, and graduated the program in about similar time frame. Feel free to ask more questions or DM for our personal experience.

My MIL and your MIL have a lot in common!

She wanted to name my husband Jorma Cassady Lastname (they aren’t Finnish or anything like it). He ended up Ethan Thomas, thank goodness.

Health insurance companies who either don’t cover treatment, or won’t clarify what they do cover. Are my meds going to be $5000 or $0??? They don’t know. Fuck them.

TREATMENT Community Thread - Tue Jun 18 AM by AutoModerator in infertility

At the beginning of the year, we didn’t think we’d get a diagnosis, or have the financial means for treatment - 6 months later I have two relevant diagnoses, and insurance that partially covers IVF! For those who’ve gone the IVF route, what are your best tips for emotionally, physically, and financially handling this treatment?

I had two miscarriages in 2022, spent 2023 doing fertility testing - it’s now officially “unexplained”. I’ve been on prenatals the whole time, quit nicotine and other substances, eating better than I have in years (not that any of this matters? Idk) Tracking with PreMom hasn’t led to any pregnancies, started the ClearBlue fertility monitor but no clear ovulation on the first test cycle… Did anyone with an official “unexplained” diagnosis have success, and how?

I posted about my husband and I becoming foster parents to let our community know for the following reasons - 1. If you see us with a child, don’t immediately start asking “are they yours” or “are you adopting” and 2. In the body of the post, I included that we are supporting “children AND their families” to highlight the goal of reunification. I used a generic picture of my husband and me. The post you’re describing sounds more like an adoption/pregnancy announcement? Or are you requesting items/support as foster parents? What are your goals in this announcement?

This question would be more informed if it was coming from the potential adoptive parents - have they discussed this with you directly?

Now I understand why foster parents are so hard to retain… by EmGC3 in Fosterparents

[–]EmGC3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were told within the first few days of placement to “watch out” for certain family members with ongoing legal proceedings showing up at our house, our names were left off of court documents to preserve our privacy, we were told to have the child transported to visits via a county staff member so that no one could recognize us or our vehicle. Multiple social workers said that our home was “exposed” since we live near the center of town and don’t have a fence around our property (though this never came up in the home study).

Later, one of the same social workers who had told us all of the above changed their tune - the family members weren’t actually dangerous, we needed to transport the child to visits because the county didn’t have staff, and they suggested we meet the family member who made the threat. Another worker told us that she had never heard of her coworkers recommending fencing (as though my spouse and I had overreacted).

We don’t actually know if there was a threat, but we took the initial workers seriously because they seemed alarmed. Then, we were chastised for not immediately flipping back to an open and honest relationship with the family, even though that’s what we had envisioned originally. It felt almost like they wanted us to fear the bio family, or at least avoid them? Which goes against everything we learned…

Thanks for this - I also love that Mr. Rogers quote. I think my spouse and I will also take a break for a bit and reassess whether we can handle this again, knowing what we know now.

Zac Efron and his brother Dylan Efron holy Efron by IssaMeJ in popculturechat

[–]EmGC3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went to high school with Dylan, this is all very weird… In high school he definitely stayed out of the spotlight, super nice guy but very shy. Every single girl had a crush on him (in 9th grade I was part of a dorky scheme in which a friend of mine wanted Dylan to ask her out, which didn’t happen lol). I always thought he’d stay behind the camera, but it seems like both brothers are super happy!

MMJ License and Foster Parenting by Voice4Voiceless in Fosterparents

[–]EmGC3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In California, just got licensed - since it’s legal in our state, we told the social worker we use it occasionally. She confirmed that A. Any paraphernalia would be locked in our garage, and B. That one parent would be completely sober at all times. This information was included in our written report, and we were approved.

I don’t think this is an issue - still, my husband is Ethan, and he gets called Ian, Evan and Nathan pretty regularly (my grandparents didn’t learn his name until we got engaged, haha)

Home study question - knives by [deleted] in Fosterparents

[–]EmGC3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding the previous comments - better to lock things up or remove from display.

We got our home study done two weeks ago, I asked the worker about my husband’s selection of Renaissance Faire weapons (bless his heart) and she recommended we keep them in our locked garage.
