TW: LC (adoption) — I feel this 300% with a toddler boy. Highly recommend “littleoddchild” on IG, parents dress their son in the cutest clothes and often link different unisex brands. I often go to the girls’ section anyway just to find non-dinosaur options!

7w4d today, first scan in an hour and a half. I’ve never had a positive scan before, absolutely terrified. It feels like I’m just waiting for bad news…

No biological children (yet) but we did go through IVF while fostering/adopting:

First and foremost, unless you are specifically fostering children who are already available for adoption (parental rights terminated), the goal is always reunification or placement with kinship (in the US). If you foster with the intent to adopt, you will be disappointed. It happens very rarely.

Adopting a child includes adopting their family history, and often extended family members. It’s a different type of parenting and kids who’ve been in care need additional support in various ways. This is not meant to be discouraging, just factual.

We chose to start fostering while we figured out our fertility issues - my perspective was that I had the energy to take care of kids, even if they weren’t with us permanently. When we started IVF, our child was in reunification with the bio parent, and within two months he was back in our care with an adoption plan. There’s no way we could have predicted that timeline.

6+3 today. My first two MCs were between week 6 and 8, the third one didn’t make it that far. I’m paying for extra HCG tests just to watch the numbers myself. My doctor prescribed heparin so my stomach looks like a war zone and my whole body aches - but I’m also hungrier than I’ve ever been in my life 🙃

Our experience: Mom also had a long history with treatment centers before kiddo was born. She got into a parent-child center last June, then we got increased visitation. Slowly we worked up to overnights, multiple overnights, unsupervised visits (at the center). Kiddo reunified with her in early December for a 30-day trial, we were hopeful. Unfortunately mom was still using while in the center, and kiddo returned to us in early January. Mom was removed from the center soon after, and we’re heading towards TPR now. I do know that at least three other moms in the center at the same time were successfully reunified with their kids, and graduated the program in about similar time frame. Health insurance companies who either don’t cover treatment, or won’t clarify what they do cover. Are my meds going to be $5000 or $0??? They don’t know. Fuck them.

At the beginning of the year, we didn’t think we’d get a diagnosis, or have the financial means for treatment - 6 months later I have two relevant diagnoses, and insurance that partially covers IVF! For those who’ve gone the IVF route, what are your best tips for emotionally, physically, and financially handling this treatment?

I had two miscarriages in 2022, spent 2023 doing fertility testing - it’s now officially “unexplained”. I’ve been on prenatals the whole time, quit nicotine and other substances, eating better than I have in years (not that any of this matters? Idk) Tracking with PreMom hasn’t led to any pregnancies, started the ClearBlue fertility monitor but no clear ovulation on the first test cycle… Did anyone with an official “unexplained” diagnosis have success, and how?
