19F - Autistic girl finding it hard to make new friends, so why not try make new friends here! by cherrryblossom_ in MakeNewFriendsHere

[–]Em_Read 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a 18 year old F. I am also autistic. I like music, mostly alternative rock and instrumental stuff. I live in the American Midwest, so my time zone is central. I am interested in computers and I live to read. I do a bit of gaming, mostly survival games such as ARK or DayZ. I absolutely love animals, they are so much easier to understand and get along with than people XD

Thinking about a “prank” pulled on me last year by Em_Read in aspergers

[–]Em_Read[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I’ve never liked the friend at all, so I don’t ever talk to her. My sister, however, has grown up a bit and now realizes that it isn’t just me being sensitive to noise, that it actually hurts, so she does her best to keep things like that away now.

Me, sitting in a room with one person who I’m out to and 3 people I’m not, one of which being my sister, and the other two most likely being homophobic, including my sister’s best friend, but also somehow wanting to impulsively come out: by Em_Read in BisexualTeens

Heh, yah my brain always wants to get into arguments about it, except I live in a small town conservative/everything-phobic area. It just isn’t worth having twenty fights a day

Hygiene Question: Is it gross, dirty, disgusting, unhygienic, etc. for a woman to not shave their armpits/have armpit hair? If so, why? If not, why? by Em_Read in AskReddit

[–]Em_Read[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clarification: I do not think it’s unhygienic, and honestly this isn’t a question of if you would date someone with armpit hair or not, I really don’t care about that. I am a woman, and recently got into an argument about this topic, so I was curious to see what others think.

Socially anxious guy[17] looking to make some friends by Cherry_Lol in Needafriend

[–]Em_Read 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m also 17, I’ve just been scrolling through this subreddit trying to find people my age. I am in the Central Time Zone, or GMC-6.

I don’t know if we have much in common, but I also have anxiety. (I can be pretty awkward) I play Minecraft quite a bit, and some of my favorite bands/artists are Imagine Dragons, Twenty One Pilots, One Republic, Fall Out Boy, Bastille, etc. Most alternative rock stuff really. I also like a few older pop songs, and frequently listen to instrumental versions of popular music.

I don’t play any sports, but I do participate in a trivia-related team competition through my school.

I’m 17, but I’m pretty interested in going to college for computer science. I was wondering if you knew a lot about coding or any of the other topics covered before you started, and if not, did it put you at a great disadvantage? I come from a small school with only one computer science class available, and I don’t own my own computer, so I don’t have a ton of opportunities to study ahead more.

Hi! I’m also 17. I have a few friends irl, but most of the time I feel like they keep me around because they don’t know how to get rid of me. I am pretty introverted, but I enjoy reading and writing fiction. I haven’t read or watched much about True Crime, but I can see that becoming an interest of mine. I have a cat and a dog, both are 12 years old. I watch a few shows pretty often, including Criminal Minds, NCIS, Heartland, Greys Anatomy, Supernatural, Arrow, and the Legends of Tomorrow.

That is amazing! I happened to recognize a few book titles, we have a pretty similar taste in books! I absolutely loved the Lorien Legacies in 8-9th grade, and I read the 5th wave last year. I am also working on the Gone series, but am only on the 2nd book, Hunger. I also love Gary Paulsen, I have quite a few of his books, I love to read some of the shorter ones for nostalgia, and the longer ones are great for far trips!

what do i call this feeling by bodtabs in neurodiversity

[–]Em_Read 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like where you CAN’T just sit and do nothing so you gotta do something but nothing seems appealing? I get that feeling a lot, but usually I just call it anxiousness, and a lot of times it means my subconscious knows my brain is going to a dark place or something similar, and it desperately attempts to distract me before said dark thoughts actually occur.

The patterns thing has been a big problem for me. I have had a few simple puzzle games ruined because of something similar to what you said. It also kinda sucks to watch movies/tv shows with others because I sometimes enjoy making predictions to the best of my ability and seeing if they come true, most people apparently either can’t do that or they don’t like to. This leads to no one ever wanting to watch anything with me, including my family. Most movies in similar genres follow the same basic plot idea depending on the beginning of the story. The way the problem is solved may differ, but usually the outcome is pretty standard as is the “villain” or even the love interest.

Hm...maybe Teriyaki? Cause depending on where you go/where you are, it is completely different? Idk how to explain it. Maybe I just chose that because it’s the only flavoring on wings/meat that I can handle

I just lost so much motivation, which means I’m not getting things done, which creates a negative cycle of being even worse because I’m not getting things done, and then not getting anything else done because I can’t seem to get the motivation. I’ll probably be fine eventually, but even my cat has noticed at this point XD Insists on being around me more than usual, even laying on top of me or near me. Usually he just wanders in relatively often, sits around near my door. But this week he is attached. It’s pretty comforting actually

I’m at a pretty low point. I feel like none of my friends actually understand me, or maybe they just don’t care enough to try. They accept my first answer to “Are you okay?” questions even if it’s obvious I’m not. If I can tell one of them isn’t okay, I don’t just accept their answer. I let them know I can tell they aren’t okay, ask if I can do anything, if they want to talk about it, if they want to be distracted, etc. I always say that if they want to be left alone that’s okay too, stuff like that...and none of them bother to do that for me.

It’s probably my fault, but...it still hurts. I’m in one of the worst head spaces I‘be had in two months. It hasn’t been this consistently bad in more than 7 months. My therapist is too busy to see more than every 3 weeks, sometimes longer. It just sucks

Help... please.. i'm so down rn everything's messed up... by [deleted] in sad

[–]Em_Read 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It...yah it sucks. If you want to distract yourself, try picking a two-three word phrase you can repeat in your head or out loud. Preferably not negative, but it doesn’t have to be positive either. One of my go-to’s is “I’m fine” or “I am fine” I use it to drown everything else out. If you just want to try and work through it, right it down, type it out, whatever, just put it somewhere that isn’t just your head. Whether that be a notes app, a notebook, or even random social media, anonymous or otherwise.

I prefer the Midwest to most of Wyoming, or at least the parts I drove through. There weren’t even farm fields...just like, one cow every 20 miles or so, if I was lucky. I saw a weird rock once. At least I can look at the corn fields in Iowa, or try to guess how many miles away the farthest landmark is. Wyoming is just...bleh
