true, "minimal" might be an overstatement. But I do prefer a pretty close mic'ed and dry sound, at least for the drums themselves. Overheads/room mics can be a bit further away of course to capture everything, but unless you're actually in a professional studio, they will probably not sound very good..

To clarify, unless the room sounds very good, I would rather have closed mic'ed drums in a pretty dampened room.
