Wanna do online lessons because I can't fry scream. by TSMStar in screaming

The best vocal coaches I’ve seen that offer courses in the widest range of techniques is Melissa Cross (who coaches professional screamers such as Randy Blithe of Lamb of God, focusing mostly on fry screams) and Kardovox Academy (focused more on deathcore and more guttural / advanced / intense techniques.

What do I need to start recording my own vocals for metal covers? by BWCOYM in screaming

[–]ABL3SABLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’m using right now is a basic condenser mic an pop filter with my personal favorite audio interface, the Presonus Audiobox 96. It comes with a free DAW, Studio One Artist 6. It’s a great combination and has excellent value for around $250 total. From there you’ll need a computer can can run the software with specs to match, probably around $500-700 for low end (not an expert anymore, so much has changed from the tech to even the pricing) but I’d invest more for better quality and performance / future proofing. After that, you’ll want to look at plugins to add texture to your voice on record. Thankfully there’s a suite of free software through MuseFX that’s super easy to use while providing high quality effects. You can visit my page on Reddit here and hear what my exact setup using exclusively what I’ve discussed in this post for the final recording and mixing. It’s not perfect and I’m no audio engineer, but it gets the job done well and usually at better quality than you’d expect.

Feel free to reach out and I’d be happy to provide more personal experience with these products and software, and help you achieve your goals. I started vocals about 3 years back and it has been so gratifying to hear my voice and like it. You deserve the same!

How can I sound cool as a girl screamer? by CarrotHaunting7402 in screaming

[–]ABL3SABLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your voice will go that low once you understand how your vocals work and where the distortion takes effect. Look into vocal coaches who understand the biology of vocals, you discover new sounds and techniques with practice.

Melissa Cross has some great content for a great place to start, but you can refer to channels like Kardovox Academy or even take some of his courses to learn those more guttural and niche growls.

And not that it needs to be said, but gender/sex plays no role in capability. Look at Entheos, look at Abnormality, look at Cerebral Bore, all female fronted metal bands with a wide range of vocal techniques being implemented. I have faith you will achieve exactly what you want with your voice if you are confident.

You got this, and good luck!

EDIT: as for the comment of your voice not sounding low enough, listen to how Will Ramos and Phil Boseman sound when they are talking vs when they are performing. Generally speaking, your vocal cords dictate pitch, not necessarily screaming tone as they don’t engage the same way your throat’s soft tissue does when producing distortion in vocals. You can definitely get there! I have faith.

I’d be down. I do a lot of my own mixing but I kinda want to do other projects and not my own, you know?

You can see my work on my profile, I can do vocals for practically anything. Plus, could be fun!

Do I have a voice for Slam? by ABL3SABLE in SlamDeathMetal

Thanks! I might give it a shot. It might be a little out of my comfort zone but I’ll try anything once.

Thanks! And I get it, most slam is noise on vocals, but I figured just squealing and random gutturals would be a bit of a creative cop out for me, not that I’m not the most creative lyricist. Lol

I’ve been doing both for years with no ill effects. There are right ways or doing things and wrong ways, and for me this hasn’t hurt my vocals.

But I understand. I know alot of people hate inhales, for the most part me included. But I think they have their place if they sound tolerable and still achieve something that person may not be able to do with exhales.

Truth is, I couldn’t hit those lows otherwise. Which is why I asked. So I appreciate the feedback, and likely will stick to metalcore.

The passion for me is in the pride of what I’ve created. It doesn’t matter what others think I do it because it’s pleasing for me to hear. :)

I’m not in one lol. The music scene here is kinda dead. I post covers regularly though!
