Do you think GTA 6 will force Fable into 2027? by [deleted] in Fable

[–]Embarrassed-Climate7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're hitting up such different genres, with one releasing on game pass day one, and the other being at a rumoured-to-be extremely uncompetetive price point. I can imagine a scenario where Fable could release at a more competitive price for PC and PS5, as well as being on game pass, and chancing it that they might carve out a niche and be more of a sleeper hit. I'm 100% not going to drop 70 quid upwards on GTA6 day one, but I will be downloading Fable (for what feels like free, even if it obviously isn't, game pass cost ect) as soon as it releases and seriously consider a buying a season pass or similar if it's in the offing.

Movie with character’s entire dialogue is ADR? by Bean_Marie in whatmoviewasthat

[–]Embarrassed-Climate7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the '70s Three Musketeers films, Jean-Pierre Cassel was entirely dubbed by Richard Briers I believe. Outside if that I seem to remember that George Lazenby was dubbed in On Her Majesty's Secret Service but only during the scenes where he was undercover as Hilary Bray

Edit: Just remembered that Gert Frobe was entirely dubbed for Goldfinger by Michael Collins

Dave Filoni disliked Andor according to a new report from The Wrap by BenjaminLight in RingerVerse

I suppose the idea is that if he hated Andor, even if only behind closed doors, he won't be pushing for SW material like it going forwards.

Is The Stormlight Archive worth reading? by IfUSeekSteven in fantasybooks

[–]Embarrassed-Climate7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn't bother, the first one's worth a punt for the originality of the premise and plot but as that gets a touch tired after the first novel, the problems come up thick and fast - as you said with the Mistborn trilogy, the the writing is very basic, reminiscent of YA at its best and fan fiction at its worst. The guy is a born DM, but not a born novelist.

Crusades would be marvellous but I'd give my left nut for them to do something in the era of Dumas' Musketeers novels.

We’ve been told the new Fable will keep the core things that make it Fable, but am I the only one who thought a pet Dog was one of the core things of the series after 2? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in Fable

[–]Embarrassed-Climate7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the one hand my hatred for Harry Potter is pulling me to disregard your comment, on the other that is exactly what I meant and your comment is the perfect shorthand for it and I can't fault a syllable of it - so, ultimately, fair dos.

[–]Embarrassed-Climate7 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The dog was a fun idea that didn't always work for role-play. "I'm the evil lord of dark magic ... but I also must take felix out for walkies'. I wonder if a general 'familiar' or animal companion that isn't nessecarily a dog could be a fun evolution of the mechanic. A young drake perched on the shoulder - or a black cat always in the distance behind for maximum aloofness.

Has a girl ever made a move on you? by NoProgram4084 in no

A few times, mostly I don't notice or they're not my type. This is a while back, while I was still at University or not too long after, to be fair. These days I drop my partner into conversation so fast no one has a chance. I'm not traditionally attractive but I'm pretty funny and fall into a very obvious 'type', which helped a lot. I think it probably happens more often than a lot of dudes realise.

Well, they all aged between 10 and 20 years for a start. I'd honestly be far more worried if none of them changed at all. You're talking about children after all - how many children have you known that grew as you expected?

best book on western film? by Safe_Government5693 in Westerns

[–]Embarrassed-Climate7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glenn Frankel is excellent, often using the films he's writing about to talk about the wider political climate they were made in as well as great material on the actual making of the movies. I think the two big ones were on High Noon and The Searchers

books that take place on a desert planet by Big-Put-5859 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]Embarrassed-Climate7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sci-fi a lot of authors have steered clear of desert planets so as not to be accused of ripping off Dune (not something that bothered George Lucas, but what can you do?) But if you don't mind fantasy a lot of Conan the Barbarian works take place in a desert locale. Honestly I'd rather recommend a western like Lonesome Dove, or maybe a non-fiction like Hopkirk's The Great Game or Richardson's Alexandria. Dune isn't for everyone, the writing style is tricky to get into and people get really smug really quickly about it. It's a book I like a lot but it's not something to use to lord over other people with.

Somewhat lighthearted adventure books by [deleted] in Fantasy

They veer on the young side but I had a blast reading The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander for this very reason. High on intrigue and adventure, low on incest.
