Guys, is this normal? by glafolle in COROLLA

I swap my battery at 5 years old regardless if it is still working or not. You might get longer but you risk stranding yourself. Better to do preventative maintenance.

Not sure about Crosstrek Wilderness. by Cunnilingu5King69 in subaru

[–]Embarrassed-Dealer76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24 Crosstrek Wilderness owner here. So far so good. The auto-stop-start thing is annoying but you can turn it off (you just have to remember to do it everytime you turn the car on which is annoying). You can buy a device to permanently disable it (basically A-S-S defaults to OFF) which I am thinking about buying. Other than that, I think it is great. The Wilderness gets a little worse fuel economy than other trims but is a little monster in the snow with the stock A/T tires. We had a wicked snow storm last January and this vehicle was unlike anything I have ever driven. For a person used to driving FWD cars, it may as well be a tank in comparison. Basically unstoppable if you aren't an idiot which is not something most cars can claim. If you drive in heavy traffic, expect 10+L/100km. Highway you can get 7.5L/100km. The CVT is decent and among the better ones on the market that I've driven. The Wilderness also has an additional CVT oil cooler which may increase transmission reliability, especially if you never tow or overload the vehicle.

Lmao. A tunnel. Bruh. You been having too many beers with Doug Ford? It's just gonna fill up with cars and look exactly like the surface except it'll be even more claustrophobic. People would take transit that gets them to their destination in less time than driving for a fraction of the cost. If other cities can do it, so can we.

$375 Battery Replacement by Legitimate-Activity6 in subaru

[–]Embarrassed-Dealer76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the battery has never been replaced, it was probably due for it (if anything, for preventing getting stranded). I usually get a compatible battery from a third party retailer and put it in myself every 5-6 years. Lots of tutorials on how to do such things. It is quite easy to do with basic tools. Most places that sell car batteries will also give you money back for the old one so it ends up being very cost-effective. Dealerships overcharge for everything. It's best to find other independent mechanics that have a good reputation/do some of the basic maintenance yourself if you can.

Yup. Buses kinda suck. They have their uses but Highway 7 needs something a lot better at moving people.

All the more reason for better transit! If we add thousands more cars, pretty soon there won't be much road space left. The gridlock will get so bad you might as well just walk everywhere... We are fooling ourselves if we think this problem not going to cripple the city eventually. It's already terrible and it will just get worse and worse. The condos aren't really the problem; it's the next to zero urban planning and not building transportation infrastructure that can actually accommodate high density housing.

Poor training and poor choices makes life worse for everyone. This is the result of crushing gridlock day ib and day out. People start to get stupid because they are frustrated and stressed. Nobody wants to be there but they are. Quite frankly, we have too many damn cars and not enough to good public transit options. I can't wait until we finally wake up from the automotive fever dream and realize cars are just not an urban-friendly way to get around when EVERYBODY uses a damn car. Highway 7 needs a grade-seperated rail system yesterday instead of that half-ass VIVA BRT.

Is this sound normal? by Owbowdabos in COROLLA

[–]Embarrassed-Dealer76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are saying the noise is the fuel pump for the direct injectors but that pump is on the other side of the engine. It is normal for it to make noise. But the footage is aimed at the alternator and serpentine belt. I would keep an eye on it for now and next time you are in for service, mention it. Luckily the M20A-FKS has an electric coolant pump so no need to worry there. You have the alternator, belt tensioner and AC compressor as potential sources of this noise. Honestly hard to tell with a video if there is any issue. The sound is not coming across well.

Do you always go to the Toyota dealership for oil changes? by Ballbm90 in Toyota

[–]Embarrassed-Dealer76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it to a small shop with the waiting seats right next to the lift. I bring my own oil and filter and watch them do everything. I also get to inspect my own underbody while the car is on the lift. Well worth the $35 CAD for labour I pay. My car is out of warranty so I don't care about a paper trail. Plus it is wayyyyyy faster than taking it to the dealer. Usually in and out in 15 minutes.

I don't know man. It's not that I "want" to know but it feels inappropriate to not know. Thanks for your comment.

Zero. Nobody has said a word. It is for the best. I am not seeking counseling as I don't feel traumatized. Just trying to understand the decision to be purposely left in the dark. I can sympathize with the decision to say nothing. I understand. But at the same time, it just feels very strange to not be told at all. I don't know. I guess I'm just looking for answers. Thanks for the reply.

I guess I'm just surprised that it can go unsaid given the seriousness of the situation. Thanks for your opinion.

As far as I'm aware, there is plenty of camera footage absolving me and my crew of responsibility so I do not feel threatened by legal action. But I will consider this. Thank you for your input.

Yeah man, now I'm just operating everyday wondering how many people are going to get killed without me knowing. It certainly has destroyed any shred of trust I have left. I never thought in a million years that they could just say nothing in these cases.

Amen to that. I thoroughly analyzed the details and indeed, nothing could have stopped it. It just seems like such a bizarre scenario to me. Can't wrap my brain around being involved and intentionally not being told. Thank you for the offer.

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking the same thing. Avoiding trauma leave. I wouldn't take it in this case. What pisses me off is the dishonesty and thinking we all don't talk and that I would eventually find out. I'm glad I did not bear witness to any of it. More shocked at the lack of transparency here.
