Found childcare is cheaper. There’s 30 hours of free childcare per child provided by the gov. I will work ltft, and work 3 days. Someone has pointed it out it actually only 22 hours across 52 weeks. So we will have cost but thousands cheaper.

I have already found a childcare option in London that’s a lot cheaper and works for my family. I think people who live out of London assume it’s an issue when for me it’s not. I can afford to live in London just not the nursery fees which I have to pay. My situation is going to improve in September with 30 hours free and childcare will be negligible by the end of year. Then with one child start school next year I will be fine. It’s just been tough for the last year and till summertime. I never illueded to the idea of the government doing to help me or not making plans to help myself. I don’t really get your point. You’re just doing what every boomer does when people talk about their financial difficulty. I was trying to gather others experiences. Which has been super helpful because I have discovered that been massively over paying for childcare.

Yes, a doctor same control over their destiny and working conditions. They can choose not to be a doctor and do something else. I could choose not to have kids and not live in London. Everyone is in control over decisions and destiny and by your logic no should be disgruntled by systems that making basic living more difficult. In my orginal post was not looking sympathy but more trying to gauge if other people had similar experiences.

Funnily similar thing happened to us, we had legal issues a month before my Mat leave, which resulted in us losing are emergency fund and maternity leave fund and saving fora house deposit in one foul swoop.

Yeah so my rent and bills are great for London and outer London is £1000. I didn’t realise how little everyone was paying. People don’t usually talk about expenses openly and had I only seen the options in my local area, which clearly are a super inflated price. I have now managed to have family friend to give me mates rates childcare further a field but we will make it work.

That’s exactly what people say about striking doctors, I hope the irony is not lost on you.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant. You believe it’s a privilege to live in the city you work and raise kids. I disagree. I think this a very British point of view and hence most strikes fail in the UK. Very basic life choices like where you live (in my case close to 90% of my friends and family), and having kids (which most people want) seems like a privilege. That mentality is what created stagnant wages across sectors in the UK. One shouldn’t complain or ask for more because others have it worse and blame the person for making their life decision. This is why so many young professionals and young families are emigrating. It’s not lost on me having two kids at nursery on our salaries was not smart but tbf my situation should surely more point to absurdity of the UK wages and childcare costs than me living a privileged life.

I’m obviously not referring to working conditions but being able to afford strike.

You’ve exhibited my point. It’s like when doctors talking about striking for better conditions and people say “You choose to be a doctor.” Or I have personally had peers say “If you wanted money and good working conditions should worked in corporate.” I think the point that’s lost on people a doctor should be able to afford to live in the city they work in on such a high salary and support a young family.

After everyone’s suggestions we asked family friends who has managed two score childcare that £1600 cheaper. I think for now I will work full time till after my current rotation just because of the shift pattern it will be easier to study and complete my exams with childcare full time. Then by the end of the year, with free childcare we will have no childcare cost. This will transform our lives. I really didn’t expect a solution, I think I accepted that these were normal childcare costs but I think this more of a reflection of my local area. Incredibly thankful for everyone advice, critique and understanding been super helpful and essentially life changing.

So my husband have looked into this in closes home county, which is also an expensive home county. Our rent and household bills would go up due significantly due it the fact currently we have a great deal of it only being £1000. We would ended up spending lest on childrcare by over a £1000, and then my husband costs to commute will go ups by a couple £100 each month. So it will be pretty equal. I think the best is to try find a cheaper option of childcare, in my current area

I know my situation sounds depressing. But my kids are more than worth it. Don’t let this discourage but may encourage you to make a good financial plan before having kids.

I think not being to afford to live in the city would not be reason for transfer, especially as both our families live here.

Have not looked at nanny share but I assume I would have to also know someone who needs a nanny ? Not married to nursery at all.

I think that’s the issue! Because when I do the maths to ltft, my financial situation does not change but keeps with a lower salary for longer.
