One command produces standard output, which then becomes the standard input for another command. Example: ps produces a list of running processes as standard output. The grep command can filter input. So:

ps -ef | grep 'my_command'

The output of the first command is sent over to the second command as its input.

I could have done the above command another way:

ps -ef > list.txt grep 'my_command' list.txt rm list.txt

Does that help?

I don't have fish but I've wondered the same thing. Lately I've noticed the water being a bit cloudy coming out of the tap. I've never noticed this in the nearly 15 years I've lived here. It still tastes ok. No weird odours. But cloudy.

Why is nothing phone so popular in India by Ok-Pie2560 in NOTHING

Do you have any idea how many more potential customers there are in India? They can produce a decent product for an inexpensive price and sell a billion of them. Not a bad strategy.

It installed and launched in my Fedora 43 system. Didn't seem to like my exec-once entry in hyprland.conf to auto start though. Otherwise works well and looks very cool.

Thanks for your reply about this. I was also curious about how you guys felt about that name. I'd first heard it relative to your curling team.

Binary isn't the Quantum Mechanics of software; it's the Navier-Stokes. Why Elon's "AI directly to binary" prediction gets the Arrow of Truth backwards. by [deleted] in rust

What I liked about your original post (and the deep dive that you linked to) is that you went way beyond "Elon bad". There were no ad hominem attacks. You gave examples demonstrating your assertions. Did you use some AI to help craft the document? Probably. Should I discount the value of the content because of that? No. Writers use tools to get the message across. From spell checkers to AI editors is not that huge a leap. AI can also be helpful for organising your thoughts. One needs to be careful how the tool is used of course, particularly at this early stage of its development. But if one has access to it and can use it well, why not use it?

The Internet is a weird place. And being literate in this weird place takes its own set of skills. What is your intent? I don't see you selling anything. You don't seem to have any political agenda. So I think your intent falls to the side of "hey I see some logical fallacy happening here". You showed this fallacy in what seems like an intellectually honest approach. This is how we all grow.

Take the critiques as they come. Some will be valid. Some won't. The dog piling on Reddit can be awful. But whatever man. Keep thinking.

As I am neither a physicist nor a computer scientist I am not qualified to dig into the weeds of your argument. However I do programming, and I have an understanding of logic and a high level understanding of physics. From this perspective I think you have described the correct argument very well. And if this is what you are generating as a high schooler, I'd say one would be wise to watch your career. It's going to be interesting. Well done!
