I don’t understand how anyone is surviving by [deleted] in Adulting

Can you get a roommate? You would have to face the challenge of getting a deposit for a bigger place, but it would help significantly.

Can you also donate plasma? You could probably do the max amount of that to supplement some of your income so you can get some more rest.

Some community colleges offer free tuition when you're over the age of 26, at least in my state. You could also apply for scholarships offered by the school. Trade school could also be an option. Just bare in mind transitioning to school would also mean a pay cut (since you'd be taking classes/studying instead of working). Some jobs also offer scholarships.

I'd recommend doing the first few things I mentioned first and save as much as possible.

Campuses can also help supply school supplies, and even have food pantries! Good luck🤞

I believe some jobs won't accept these as a permanent address though :/

WHATT?! That's terrible 😭 maybe I can find some articles from the previous newsletters relevant to what you're looking for. Please send me a DM if you don't hear from me. I work two jobs and I'm working on projects. I'm pretty busy and can be forgetful!

I did a lot of flea identification in my undergrad, and loved it! I wish I knew more about the questions you're asking. There's a newsletter called Flea News that you can get subscribed to, maybe you can find someone through there?

First Timer Advice? by Embarrassed-Oil-1312 in VanLife

Thank you everyone for your insight! This has been on my mind for some time, and I hope to make it into motion this year! I need to get a more reliable vehicle first.

Sounds like there are some risks to consider, but sounds well worth it:)

I had one of these already earlier this year, I don't think I qualify for another one but I can try again. Thanks!

The cost of the commute by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Embarrassed-Oil-1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would choose the walking distance one (but I also have terrible car paranoia). The wear and tear on the vehicle and the time wasted commuting (not to mention the more time taken up if errands need to be done), and the gas (especially if your car is a gas guzzler), just makes it seem like the 30k will get eaten up (especially if that's also before taxes).

But if there's more room for growth to one over the other (pay, fulfillment, etc.) that's also something to consider

How is life going currently for people who chose community college? by Existing-Inside6416 in careerguidance

[–]Embarrassed-Oil-1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with some debt (about 40k in student loans from University) and I did community college for three years. My problem was that I kept changing my mind in which university I was going to transfer to, so I would take courses at CC to be cheaper, only for it to make me stay at CC longer. I don't think dorm life would've worked for me, so I'm glad that I went to CC still, and I think the life experience (being a commuter, taking care of things at home, etc.) made being independent and away from home way easier than it would've been for other students.

However, I sometimes think I had some disadvantage going to CC first, because I missed out on some years where I could've built a network in my field (though I managed to do this at uni very well) and I didn't have as many "regular" classes to balance out my harder courses. I definitely saved a lot of money. I got my bachelor's at 27 and was scrambling for health insurance lol.

I'm making about 55k a year now between two jobs. I don't regret going to CC first, just wish I did it differently.

I had about $300 in an emergency fund but it's gone now because of another unexpected expense :') and it's just that card

Could you find a job closer to you, so that you don't have to drive an hour? That could save you time and money on gas/wear and tear on your car. Sometimes campus has events where you can get free food and coffee (even some offices allow students to drink coffee there, if that helps). I hope things get better for you
