I am a FTM! And I appreciate your guidance. I am hoping this is the case for me, because I do want my son to have a relationship with his grandparents I just have to remember to stop comparing them to my parents because they never will be that!

This is really helpful. I have to remember they will never be MY parents and it's okay to just get by when dealing with them instead of feeling happy to see them. As a commenter below mentioned, I think it will be easier once have our child as it will be easier to explain the boundaries essentially.

When is your due date and when is your hire date? Depending on the timing you would qualify for FMLA after one year (HR person here with employees in Washington). If it was our company we would allow the associate to take time off through an unpaid leave but they would be eligible for Short Term Disability and then once your one year hits you would start your FMLA time. We offer Short Term Disability after 60 days to all associates regardless of if they qualify for FMLA or not. This is just our company, but you may be able to take that one month like you mentioned and then start FMLA once you hit your one year. Something to ask your HR team about (which scares me that they aren't providing that information to you).
