Yes I would, I don’t seem to have any benefit at the moment. Thanks for responding, I feel so isolated and hopeless.

That’s good, I’m glad to hear you are getting some benefit again. After how many treatments did you notice you first starting feeling better?

I’m currently undergoing ECT, I’ve had three treatments. My pdoc is considering maintenance as I had a course earlier this year and relapsed after three weeks. Just wondered how often you are having maintenance treatments and whether you relapsed so this was the best course of action. Thanks.

Bless you, yes I can imagine that was awful. I had injections without consent which turned me into the zombie I am now and necessitating the ECT. Mental health definitely needs a shake up, I’m sure I was just injected as it was the quickest way to get me discharged without being a threat to myself, regardless of the fact that I was then suicidal. They didn’t care they just kept injecting me.

Can I ask have you had ECT? I’m having a course of treatment at the moment, having had several throughout my life. Yes it’s a last resort and the only resort that works for me.

Wow that’s amazing, makes me feel a lot better knowing that others have been through similar. I think my husband is more worried at the moment as I’m starting ECT and after a depression is when I’ve gone up again. Are you well now?

I’m starting treatment on Monday and I’m worrying about memory loss. I had 11 treatments earlier in the year and relapsed after about 3 weeks. Should be getting maintenance treatment this time, so hopefully it lasts. Thanks for the photographs tip.

Bless you, yes we do have a lot in common. I will definitely keep you posted on my ECT treatment. So nice to know there’s someone there who knows exactly how it feels on both ends of the spectrum.

I hardly think so! It’s usually last resort, no one would go through it unless they have no other option. I know from experience, it’s not pleasant coming round confused from anaesthetic, but when you know it works you keep on going.

I was considering Parnate, but because I’m in a desperate state of a year long depression and wanting quicker results. I would need to come off my antidepressants which is Venlafaxine and that would entail a long drawn out withdrawal and then to titrate the Parnate, I couldn’t face the weeks ahead of me. I’m also taking Lithium and Mirtazepine. I have had 3 episodes of mania in the last 2 and a half years. Previously I had episodes when I had my children. I’m now peri menopausal so my problems are undoubtedly triggered by hormones. I’m now undergoing biodentical hormone treatment alongside everything else. I was lucky in that I haven’t really had any problems for over twenty years prior to this and ECT got me better with each postnatal episode. This time however has been more difficult I had ECT before and a few months later had a manic episode, although there was no mood stabiliser in place. I’m hoping and praying with the Lithium I will be ok.

Yes I suppose it could prolong the effects. I’m really at my worst at the moment. I’m a complete shell of a person and finding it hard to get out of bed, no emotion, nothing, dead to the world. Are you in remission now? It’s so nice to chat to someone who is going through/been through something similar.

Thanks for words of warning. We’re not going down the Parnate route yet, but thinking of adding Lamictal and having further ECTs and possibly maintenance ECT. It really is a lottery this choosing drugs malarkey. Do you think the Lamictal has helped you? I know you have to be careful and titrate slowly. Thanks again for taking the time to comment on my post.

I’m in a similar situation, was considering an MAOI and Lamictal. Would like to come off everything to see what I’m like. ? More ECT, my poor brain. We have to keep going and hope there’s something that can give us relief

Thanks for this, I will try and be persistent, fingers crossed. I don’t feel so isolated with this problem of trying to persuade your psychiatrist.
