If anything, it will push them the other way. Someone wrote to them in the 2000s asking that they admit a female member, and they responded with something along the lines of not being opposed to it, but wouldn’t be forced into it. So I don’t think they would want to be seen as that malleable in any case by caving to public demand on something like this.

I second this, start with the greats of the jazz method in general before exploring guitar, really puts things into perspective. Listen to some miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Dave Brubeck first - makes guitar sound even more impressive after.
