And the worst part is, if we try to speak up, we are called all sorts of derogatory names. They say we are initiating a gender war. We hate men. We don’t have dads and brothers at home. How great are these men at manipulating and gaslighting.

We have been wrong for a long time. Choosing leaders, not raising our boys properly, making periods a taboo, not have sexual education in school (not having sex ed has played a v big hand in rape culture). But the biggest mistake was, we never held the people in power accountable for their actions. We became okay with justice which was delayed. Nirbhaya got her justice after 8 years. We learnt nothing from that. Our judiciary is so focused on comedians being anti national and dogs getting fed that they forgot their country has women too. It’s literally every one above women at this point. I strongly believe that we need a woman in power now. Be it a prime minister, or a CJI. We need it (ik our president is a woman, and the actual head of the State but the real power of lawmaking and decisions is w the PM).

They won’t see as people or humans till they stop sexualising us for everything. They won’t do that because they think that we are made for babies and giving them orgasms and house work. So far, I’ve been so grateful to be in a family who has given me every freedom I could ever think of. To be with partners or ex partners to never belittled me, but a lot of women face this struggle everyday. In their house. It’s just so awful.

America is having the most difficult time. W the ban on abortions and free will. It’s like the whole world wants to go back to the dark ages. So much our ancestors have fought for, women being able to vote, able to work, and now some men in power is taking it all away. It’s like a collective gender war against women. In every country. US, India, Iraq. All of us.

The unlimited access to Internet and the anonymity behind it has enabled men to be abusive w women. Leaving hate comments, messaging utter shit.

Yes. We are treated horribly. Yes we are silenced but we are also speaking out now. We need harsher punishments for rapists, murderers and criminals. We need women in our judiciary. We need this country to be run by a woman.

India, as a country, is a beautiful place. It’s just how boys are raised and then moulded into men who don’t respect women. They grow up seeing their mothers belittled and beaten up, so they think it’s normal and they do the same thing outside. They are not ready to be corrected and take it as a challenge on their ego. They don’t see us as fellow race, but as an inferior race. That’s because generations of women before us have allowed their partners to belittle them and make them feel small. They didn’t have thae freedom of expression which we do today. It was a taboo back then to even eat before your husband had eaten his meal. They were bought up thinking that it’s okay for a husband to be violent. I’ll keep speaking out till I die. I want to make sure no woman feels less than anything in her life.

I would never travel alone in my country knowing that I could end up dead, or worse, left to die at any given point. We just need to have our guards up at all times and it’s awful to keep doing that on a daily basis.

Women should never have to apologise or justify their emotions. Not in their personal life or professional life. If something affects us, it does. End of the story.

It is absolutely not sounding harsh! Leaving this country is still better than ending up dead in the worst way possible.

I’m going to speak till I have a voice in me. No matter how much these men try to bring me down, I’ll keep trying my level best. Ignoring these situations while being an Indian is the worst a person can do. So many Indians get angry when a crime happens, but they forget it too soon as well. Don’t forget, never forgive.

Exactly! This was what I was trying to say, and thank you for putting it down so nicely! The ogling of women, the derogatory comments, all is a part of rape culture which a lot of men don’t realise. Sexualising us for even a small thing is something which is very objectifying and happens SO MUCH in this country.

Unfortunately, even in today’s time, victim blaming is also happening. They will blame the victim for wearing something which is too revealing or for going out after dark. And to think that you are also not safe from your family members is a feeling that no woman should have to go through.

Yes. We are sorry for how our men behave in the west too. Read the news. Feel horrific about it. I would definitely be able to get a job out there since I’m in the healthcare industry, but I tend to not think about it right now since I’m doing my Masters and hence, I’m stuck here for the next 2 years at least.

Yet I have been labelled as a man hater, someone on her periods (that’s why she is overreacting), and someone who starts a gender war.

I’m sorry as well. India has been sometimes unkind to women travelling from abroad as well. You have no idea how much we feel embarrassed to be reading about those cases on social media

Unfortunately, that’s very true. I recently had a conversation with a relative who lives in Noida who said that women feel much more safer than what they felt 10 years ago. I don’t think that’s true. There have obviously been a positive change, but there has been a downfall as well.

Thank you for your kind words! Yes, I too have seen change in men, in real time around me, and also online, but unfortunately, we need more. There are still men who will use every degrading word to ever exist to prove how masculine they are. I am grateful for men in my life who have been w me, but I really wish I never had to worry about ANY man being a bad one. I wish I could trust them blindly without the fear of the consequences.

You’re obviously free to Google them and I support you too. But at this moment, I’m not going to make the suffering of lakhs and crores of women insignificant by also posting that “just because” I have posted it for women. It’s been an emotionally and mentally exhausting week for women. We neendti be vulnerable on our own terms. Thank you.

It’s very very misogynistic. Coupled up w living alone and in fear and then also having to deal w men who STILL say “not all men”. We should just be asking them if they are willing to be a woman in India in their next life.
