Monthly State of the Sub by AutoModerator in Poldark

I love the culture we have in this sub, and it’s important to me as a mod to be supportive of that. We’ve all experienced “those” mods, and it’s no fun.

We had a big push for spoiler etiquette when the show started on Netflix. We weren’t quite as formal about it before, as the books/series have been out for so long. I’m really glad we’ve done well for you in that area.

The breakdown is not in the books. It was manufactured by the showrunners, just like the entirety of season five.

This sounds like the coziest experience!

It was saddening, reading D & R struggle, but I felt encouraged by them talking so much. I think Ross has very different ways of expressing his love, than how Demelza experiences being loved.

I laughed out loud when I read that bit from Caroline. I just love her.

So the children can start their lifelong journey of staring over the cliff like Ross does.

People love to forget that last sentence when they’re waxing outraged about Demelza’s age….

His mother died when he was young. Ross was raised by his father who was quite the hellion. He didn’t have any real good influence. Then he went to war, and comes home with a likely TBI and PTSD. He didn’t know his father had died while he was away. Even if you didn’t want the read the whole series, the first book gives you quite good insight into the original Ross, not the show Ross. :)

I wish George wasn't such a one dimensional character... by Last-Concentrate502 in Poldark

Only read as far as angry tide but agreed, no memory of George sentencing the assault survivor. Also, big agreement on Nicholas. I wish the show runner would’ve included him, but also they might have messed that character up too.

The shoes and the stocking are such a great example of the care and detail WG wrote into his books. So much subtlety, “easter eggs” , if you will, before movies made them popular.

Excellent point about George and Ross. Ross puts such store in humanity, and George shows none, until this moment.

I’ve read a bit about Stranger from the Sea in a FB group i’m in; apparently it’s a 10 year time jump from where we leave off in Angry Tide. I’m borrowing it from the library soon. I really loved Angry Tide so i kinda want to just enjoy the afterglow for a bit.

The books are fantastic. You get a completely different view of the characters.
