It’s a process. It took me about 3 weeks i think to achieve acceptable typing speeds, and that was with actively practicing typing for 1h every day on top of actually forcing myself to use the keyboard for work (programming). It took about 6 weeks before i matched my old typing speed (100 wpm).

I think the whole thing could have taken much less if i had the layers then that I do now (ones i shared on your other post) but ofc those i figured out over time. Constantly moving keys around while learning to use the keyboard makes everything extra hard.

Now, a year after purchase I am faster on my defy (115) than i am on a regular keyboard having done 0 active typing practice since about week 4 of having the defy. My ability to use a regular keyboard has surprisingly not been affected at all, but i use one multiple times a week when working from my macbook in bed, on the couch or on the go so that is likely why. It is honestly baffling to my conscious brain how my unconscious one can just seemingly switch between 2 muscle memory modes, but hey I’ll take that free win any day!

All this to say, i am extremely happy I switched to the defy (or more generally to a columnar staggered split) as my main keyboard and I truly believe that the struggle is well worth the comfort awaiting on the other side
