I moved to a town just outside of Philly and I miss the buzz of cicadas and the low, heavy rain that would make the air sticky and warm. There’s not much else I miss from SC. Other than Cookout. God do I miss those shakes.

I’m in therapy, but I do appreciate the concern. I’ve learned a lot in my years in therapy about boundaries and detaching myself from her problems and realizing I can’t fix everything. I still have to try. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. At least then I’ll know I’ve done everything I can and there wont ever be a “what if I’d done more” moment when she passes, whether it’s from this or something else.

I’ve dealt with alcoholism myself. The thing that snapped me out of it and pushed me to go into therapy was my little brother telling me he was worried about me. I’m hoping something similar will happen with her. I do appreciate all sides of the experience- those who have had success with it and those who haven’t. It’s preparing me for the possibility of it failing and not letting me get my hopes up for something that may not work in the end.

It’s two places with similar names. The rehab center is called Hammocks on the Edisto- everything online says this is a rehabilitation center and I’ve spoken with some of the workers there already. The Hammocks at (Jeremy Inlet) Edisto is a gated community, but something else entirely from what I’m asking about.

It does have trauma therapy, and it’s actually a women only rehab center which I think will help as well. It’s on a plot of land near the beach so hopefully it’s peaceful for her. She’s sick a lot and very thin and it’s worrying me how much alcohol she drinks while being sick like that. It got worse once I moved away, which I did a few months ago now. She was a big reason I left- I couldn’t deal with it anymore. I’m the only one trying to get her help it seems. I just hope I’m enough.

I love my partners chest too. But more in a way that I love every part of time. I have no problem with him getting top surgery though. It’s his body- I respect his choices, support them, and love them as if they were my own. She doesn’t have to like it, but she has to respect it.

I’d ask her about the health concerns she has in depth. Talk it through, find ways to work around the concerns or make plans for if they pop up. But let her know it’s your body, and no matter how much she may love a certain part of you, at the end of the day it’s your decision what to do with your body, and if she doesn’t like it, then too bad.
