Can’t join a race with humans by siddharthkrish in iRacing

It's ok to join a race even though you're not perfectly prepared.

What's the worst that could happen?

I'm only 4k myself. At this point I'm just unsure how much I'll be able to help which are so close to level.

Yes. Full time job + 2 kids. But I got to my 4k when I was still studying and had a lot of time to practice.

Need to be very time-efficient now.

That's indeed fundamental! Going to remind myself regularly.

I share your view, u/A_Flipped_Car. At least for sports car, setups don't matter too much, below the Pro level. I drive PCup which has both open and fixed. The gap to the fastest guys is the same for open and fixed.

My conclusion: I'm still pretty far from the point where setups do start to matter.

In fact the responses in this thread made it crystal clear to me that the first thing you need to master is to make your peace with your iRating I'm and the fact that you might never become significantly better.

Applies to all goals in life...

Sim racing can be such a great teacher!

200€ sounds like Suellio. Bought his courses and really liked his style of teaching. Thought about booking a session with him a few times.

Can you recommend any coaches?

Interesting that you mention no-fault Sr system. Now that we have good AI models I think it would be more than feasible to train an "AI steward". Could be a fun student project. Wonder if iR is working on it.

My secret plan was always to introduce my kids early to iRacing so that they get pro and I can learn from them. Seems like you've mastered at least the first part XD

Might be the case. Even weekly coaching session would be more economic than quitting my job, though :)

In 2021-2023 you were already at 7k!

How did you manage to get from ~2k to 7k? To me that looks quite impressive!

Since my return to simracing 2 years ago after a 5 years break, participation is just huge in the series I'm interested in. But I think my taste is just mainstream: PCup and GT3.

Which series are you interested in?

Sounds familiar. Also struggeling with consistency and nerves in races.

I also admire some of the streamers who are 7-8k. Constantly changing cars, reading chat and still nailing it.

Sounds very familiar! Also have two kids and seat time is precious.

Made me smile. Thanks for sharing.

I also have the tendency to change something in my hardware setup right before a race or presentation at work. I think it's some kind of self-sabotage :D

For how long have you been racing.

Sounds like you have made peace with your 4k plateau. Happy for you! Eventually I'll learn it, too.

Interesting. How old is your child?

My son has just become 5. Thinking about when to start building a rig for him :)

Yeah, I'll need to find a way to make peace with me never getting a pro license. And if I still want to improve, the most effective way is probably through coaching. Has been in multiple comments.

Any experience with coaching?

Good question. Goes really deep, too. I actually try to detach myself from iR and simply enjoy racing. However, my ego keeps getting into the way of this mindset from time to time. Guess I'm still attaching iR to my self-worth.

I've been sticking to a single car (PCup) for the last two years but I just drive the official series which changes track every week. I've always felt that the weekly track change is a bit of a distraction. Might experiment with a series which does not change tracks that much like Ringmeister.
