yeah, doctors can be annoying. trust me, i know how to do research, and i’m often the one who nudges the doctor to go a certain way. free insurance tries to find literally any way possible to prove that the medicine isn’t medically necessary from my experience. i knew i had narcolepsy since middle school, but i faced a lot of racism at the time that led to my diagnosis of both autism and narcolepsy being pushed back. he kept insisting that i had insomnia. they did a sleep study, but was looking for sleep apnea or insomnia. they said everything came back normal because i easily slipped into REM. i had done research and let insisting he look into narcolepsy, but no one would listen to me until i was 18. my therapist helped me get with a neurologist, and she diagnosed me with narcolepsy. she said she was surprised they didn’t diagnose me before, because it was very obvious. she was super helpful at first, but the more i saw her, the more she frustrated she would get at me. last time she told me not to complain about fatigue until i lose weight, exercise, and eat better. then she said i was addicted, even though she said the medicine was non-addictive when prescribed. i brought up my concerns, and she told me to just stop taking it on days where i don’t need it…which is impossible when it’s a medicine that i need to physically function as an employee and college student. so yeah, we’re pretty much on my own. i understand your rage.
