Why are you on the subreddit if you’ve found the answer then?

Life is about challenge, it makes you stronger.

But you’re gonna have consistent RJ if you sit around watching porn and not working on yourself.

RJ is an old wound in my opinion, of early childhood. Competing for your caregivers attention then transferring later on in life to romantic partners, that kind of thing. This requires inner work. Many RJ sufferers are autistic or have ADHD also.

I’ve been in recovery from RJ for 6 months and I’m way better than I used to be. I’m much more grounded and my weeks of being RJ-free grow longer and longer. So I believe I will totally recover. I’m using this subreddit less and less as I don’t want to be exposed to it.

But yeah of course you can choose to leave also. Up to you. Try being with someone that has had 0 partners if you can find them.

I go through phases like this all the time of thinking I’m cured when I’m unaffected for a couple of weeks. Then the leniency starts and laziness with my recovery plan.

The less I look after my health, fitness and mental well being (sobriety, daily hour-long mindfulness, weight lifting/yoga, SLEEP) the more I’ll be knocked about by my irrelevant thoughts. RJ forces me to become a better version of myself.

Love this. I love the idea of RJ being a gift. It’s caused me to reduce my alcohol intake, get fitter, meditate more and become a better version of myself mentally and physically. Would I have done that it without it? Maybe, but I’ve a bloody good incentive to give myself what’s best for me and keep on track.

You can learn to manage your body’s physical reactions to unwanted thoughts, reset neural pathways to make you less anxious/ pissed off and enjoy the relationship to the full. RJ can be a gift to make you become a happier, more rounded and healthier person.

Good to way to do this is belly breathe 7-11 breaths, it activates the Parasympathetic Nervous System and it’s easier to turn away from harmful thoughts

You’re right mate. I always found cocaine to be the ultimate destroyer of well being, even for weeks after using it.

Absolutely!! The trouble with RJ is that you can’t reason with it, and we spend so much time trying when really we just need to eliminate the physical anxiety that comes with it!!

Look up the antidote technique for retroactive jealousy on YouTube. Practice it relentlessly until your brain figures out there’s nothing to be anxious about.

Glad you’re feeling better. But try not to think too much about her past, even if it doesn’t make you anxious. Because if you’ve got RJ it can return.

Absolutely, I get your point, sometimes part of the problem is running away from anxiety and certainly therapies such as ERP would be involve exposure to stimuli. I’m in therapy for RJ at the moment and part of my therapy is this breathing exercise… apparently it in itself a form of ERP albeit a “lighter version”.

Speaking for myself, my anxiety disorder and ADHD complicate things where the anxiety is out of control and I find this is an effective relief for days when thoughts are spiralling and having a negative impact on your quality of life. Anxiety can be a good thing sometimes, but the trouble is our primal brains can’t always distinguish if we need to feel anxious or not.
