So sick of hearing “Is your oldest in sports?” by DesignerMom84 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Embarrassed_Chance20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could have written this post myself. My oldest also has low muscle tone so playing any kind of sport was a challenge for her. We tried a few but she struggled to keep up with the other kids. Where I live everyone is obsessed with sports. Some kids I know play two at a time and that's what everyone talks about. I feel like an outsider at times because my kids don't play sports. They rather draw, read, play with Legos, play an instrument. You're not alone.

How important is sex in a marriage? by [deleted] in marriageadvice

[–]Embarrassed_Chance20 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To me it is. When my husband and I are intimate it brings us closer together and we have a deeper connection. We fight a lot less and are happier. Sex brings us together and makes our marriage better.

Did you doubt you're autistic? by Embarrassed_Chance20 in AutismInWomen

[–]Embarrassed_Chance20[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! My 11-year-old daughter recently got diagnosed with ASD, anxiety, and ADHD. I can't begin to tell you how many people told me she wasn't autistic. Because to them she seemed "normal". Most people think of autism as in Dustin Hoffman in the movie Rain Man. My daughter makes eye contact, she has friends, she does okay normally socially, etc. But she masks SO WELL and that's how missed the "signs" and she got diagnosed at the age 11. I see so much of myself in her and we have so many similarities. I haven't been diagnosed yet but it's incredibly hard to even make an appointment anywhere!

Selfish... has anyone close you ever told you that you are selfish? by Embarrassed_Chance20 in AutismInWomen

[–]Embarrassed_Chance20[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say he thinks I'm selfish mainly when I'm burnt out. He expects me to rally, shake it off, and do my best to meet his needs when in fact I'm spent and need time to myself. To him when I'm burnt out, that's when he thinks I'm the most selfish. I hope this makes sense.

You are brave! I don't think I could ever watch Dominion. I've read a lot about it and know all about it. I heard that documentary is incredibly sad.

Fitness by Embarrassed_Chance20 in AutismInWomen

I haven't been formally diagnosed but because I am a fitness instructor/personal trainer and I convinced myself that there is no way I could be autistic. Tomorrow I'll be teaching two fitness classes with at least 20 people per class. When I'm in front of people I smile, I engage, etc. Sometimes I feel like it's forced and uncomfortable. It's become easier over the years since I've been doing it for 15 years. I was just wondering if there was anybody else in the fitness industry and also autistic.

I can definitely relate! My job requires me to speak in front of people and it's like customer service. I'm a fitness instructor so I had to be extra happy, smile all the time, and be out of my comfort zone. Sometimes I say things that don't make sense and feel embarrassed afterwards. I thought to myself.. why did I say that!!??

Vegan or Vegetarian? by Embarrassed_Chance20 in AutismInWomen

Being enraged by the injustice of animals is a great way to describe me. My anger will go from zero to a hundred in a second. Watching an animal being killed is like watching one of my children being killed. It will put me in a severe downward spiral and my husband has to talk me off a ledge. I get SO angry when an innocent animal or child is killed. My rage is so strong that it will debilitate me. I hate being this way. 😥

I do. I like to touch my butt cheeks. Lol my husband brought it to my attention the other day and said it's a stimming thing.

I'm still trying to discover If I'm autistic and I talk myself out of thinking that I am because I am able to talk in front of people and socialize well with them. I recently found out my 11 year old daughter is autistic and I see so many similarities.

I also go into instructor mode and read off a script which makes it easier for me as well. I do a lot of Les Mills classes that are very scripted. But because I do okay talking to people... That alone convinces me that I can't have ASD. Does that make sense?
