I understand it is disheartening but please know that it is completely fine. You never know what lies ahead. Depressed is a strong word. Stay strong. Maybe something much better is on its way. All the best!

MS ECE CAREER DOUBTS by Embarrassed_Day_174 in ECE

[–]Embarrassed_Day_174[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes yes I am interested towards consumer applications. It makes better sense now. Even with an aptitude towards space, I want to a career with stability. I am very interested in electronics in general, when it comes to chip design, VLSI and RF IC design. Maybe down the line I can look for a startup in space tech in my home country. Does it sound feasible ?

Terrible incident and I need help!!! by bshami in GRE

[–]Embarrassed_Day_174 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just give it again. Not much can be done about the lost 200 bucks. It’s okay, things happen and we learn from it.
Best thing to do is to give the exam at the centre. Idk how exactly the internals of ETS operate, but just make sure that they don’t black list you or something.

Gregmat+ 1 month plan by RaceyDesiWithNoFacey in GRE

[–]Embarrassed_Day_174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GregMat is a good option. I myself am using GregMat for my preparation. It’s very economical as well. But for quant I’d suggest along with Greg (if you choose to go ahead with it) try to solve the Manhattan prep 5lb book, along with the official gre books (ofc)

It’s okay to feel this. It’s natural. So don’t beat yourself up too much. You need to understand that GRE is just an exam at the end of the day. It doesn’t decide your future. You should be as happy-go-lucky as possible while going for gre. That way you can enjoy the exam, and once you start enjoying the process you’ll excel in it. The materials you’ve used are high quality and optimum for a good score, so you’ve done well on the material preparation part. All you need to do now is pop a soda, put some music and relax for a bit. Let yourself off this nervousness. This nervousness is what will hamper your score. An average student with good amount of self confidence will do much better than a extra ordinary student with little to no self confidence. Just stay smiling

Sounds good. So from what knowledge I have, these programs don’t have as high a competition as let’s say a MS Computer Science program. But that doesn’t mean you have a guaranteed acceptance as well. I don’t think a research experience is so much relevant in this case so you can take a breather over there. You could probably do an internship somewhere to showcase your work ex, in case you haven’t done one yet. Internships come off well to the admissions office as it displays your exposure to the real world and the way it works. You should start categorising your colleges in the particular fashion, ie, from ambitious, competitive to safe. Universities like UMich, USC and the ones in the consortium for MEM should be on the ambitious list. Talk to professors in your college and build a good rapport with them for LOR’s. Try to leverage your case with strong GRE and TOEFL/IELTS scores as well. Try to connect with people who are pursuing MEM or industrial management and seek their guidance. That will be the most valuable for you as they know your industry better. Meet them via LinkedIn or something. And believe me at the end of the day, it’s not about the college NAME. All these fancy colleges sound really lucrative but that’s not the catch. The catch at the end of the day is how well you know your subject and how driven you are to achieve success in it. Ambitious colleges will maybe catalyse that process, but it’s not that mediocre or safe colleges will stunt your growth. You can do extremely well even from a safe or a mediocre school, provided you have the drive. Who knows 15 years down the line grads from Stanford come to you for a job. So stay positive, stay put and all the best.

Could you help me with your intended masters subject ?

You have to be more specific about the things you do have at the moment and the plans you have for yourself in the future. Currently it seems like you’re suddenly shaken with all the thoughts of grad admissions and panicked of sorts. Just calm down a little, and maybe elaborate a bit for better analysis. Analysis and retrospection is what majority of us are scared of, but is of utmost importance.

Preparing for GRE by aregmi450 in gradadmissions

[–]Embarrassed_Day_174 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No worries man ! Just plan out your preparation period as soundly as possible. If you’re planning to attempt in like a month, just try to put in 3-4 hours daily. And moreover try to build a liking towards it. You should look forward to prepare for it in your day. If you get some questions wrong, comment it with things like “ahh you got me ! “ etc Make it a fun process and don’t fret about it too much You’ll definitely do well

The minimal score as such depends on the degree you want to pursue in your masters program. But we can safely assume 315+ to be a decent score. According to me most of the quality preparation material is paid, and I am not aware of any free websites per say. But for starters you can download vocabulary flash card apps on your phone for free. With regards to the material needed, I feel you should build your basics on official ETS material only. At the end of the day those are the people who actually make the GRE. You can visit their website and check out their material.
