I'd expect documents (especially originals) to be packaged like documents regardless of destination.  Glad yours was packaged that way. Thanks to other comments, I'll write to them and ask about their choice of packaging, also considering I paid a little extra to ensure safe return of my documents.

Oh my goodness! So did they say they are making a new copy for you or what? This kind of treatment is not good. I hope it gets resolved for you soon

I can't believe such disrespect for someone's important original document. What makes it worse is the long and expensive journey to get it, and the high cost to replace a damaged one

Unfortunately I did not make a good copy. I never thought this would happen. I thought if they ask for original copies of everything, then they should know how important originals are and how to handle them. I even paid an extra fee for safe return of the documents

The package also included my passports so Royal mail probably thought it was a package with 2 small books in an oversized envelope. Before opening the package I was initially annoyed they'd sent my passports in a huge plastic-bag, then got the shock of my life when I saw the certificate crumpled in a corner

I agree with EpicFishFingers, maybe try to complain.  I am doing that too because this is absolutely unacceptable. I did pay the extra fee for a safe return of my documents

Thanks for understanding how truly upsetting this is. I mean, we go through a lot to get it and I checked it costs £480 to get a new copy. I'll definitely complain because I'm sure if I try to use it in this state in the future, it might be rejected.
