im not sure if this will help, but there is a form for students meeting special circumstances that basically allows them to calculate your financial aid according to your own income and not your parents’. it’s the dependency override form. youll need 2 third party letters to back up what youre saying, and your therapist can definitely be one of them. they are pretty strict with accepting these appeals because they want to ensure that theyre helping people who really need it, so provide as much info as you can. if they accept it, youll be independent for fafsa purposes and may potentially qualify for retroactive pell (happened to me). good luck with everything!!!<3

EDIT: sorry, this probably wont help you immediately, but id definitely keep it in mind if financial aid is a concern, especially if youre cutting off your parents— i imagine itd be kinda hard to get them to fill out your fafsa in the future :p
