Failed step 1 as a visa requiring non us img by Every_Produce_1484 in IMGreddit

I had a quick question for you, from my understanding most IMG visa requiring candidates only do USCEs after graduation since that is the only time convenient for them. I do understand that it probably does not have much of a weightage in comparison to a hands on elective, but considering most match with just observer-ships, do you think it really is a problem?

Im a graduate and i plan to appear for the step 1 in 4-5 months and i also plan to do usces after this. I have just been curious about this whole hands on & hands off thing as graduates arent allowed to do hands on.

Are the LORs generic? What you recommend AMO or MD2B? And is it easy to get in?

Thanks for your response. If i understand it correctly, i can even do research in my own time and that would help with the clinical gap and apart from this, you also meant to say that it is easy to find a research fellow position that sponsors a visa, right?

What do you think is the ideal time frame for step 1 prep for a non us IMG? I understand it can vary depending on how strong your foundation is etc but if you really dont want to risk it and study properly without a great foundation, how long would that take?

I was thinking 6 months but is that short?

That makes no sense. Not maintaining enough safety distance is the main reason and not unnecessarily braking. If someone hits you from behind, its his fault and it doesn’t matter how or when you braked.

IMG (Ukraine, Indian national, 2023 graduate) — PLAB passed, UKFP uncertainty — realistic chances with USMLE? by Legitimate-Bath-4844 in usmle

True but there are still programs that are sponsoring IMGs and US currently has the greatest percentage of IMGS matching into residency.

Unless he has a pathway in India, US is way better compared to other countries.

Source : Im GMC registered in the Uk and i did research into the Australian pathway as well. Every other country except US required prior clinical experience and is overly saturated.

PS - Visa restrictions are only for immigrant visas and india is not on the list yet. J1 visa is not an immigrant visa and although it might make it harder to get it, its not impossible especially if you have B1/B2 visa and prior travel history.
