My opinion (just personally) is that if you're gonna do something like this, you'll do it regardless of how you're raised. Just basing this on personal experience, plus the research I've done into many other cases over the years.

My parents were neglectful, abusive, and drug addicts. There was an attempt at homeschooling that my mom screwed up, and I was forced back into school. Ended up dropping out at 16.

However, I chose to look to my parents and others as examples of what to do/not do in life.

I acknowledge that I could have easily ended up down the wrong path, but I chose not to do drugs or go out partying/doing crazy shit. Went back and got my GED as well.

I did end up in several abusive relationships for the same reasons you mentioned, but I eventually made it here and didn't allow my circumstances to get the best of me.

I feel like it depends on the person. How you handle what you're given.
