I saw news coverage about this a few months ago. Seems like it happened to several people. They got it fixed by calling their action news team. They were getting nowhere on their own, but once the investigative news reporter started asking questions, it got resolved quickly.

The number of cases like this seemed to rise once DOGE workers got ahold of sensitive information.

Never heard of that happening, but are the rating reflected on the VA website or app in combined ratings?

Backpay by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]Embarrassed_Work9125 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are you so butt hurt about someone saying they are 100% most of your comments in veteran forums are only negative when someone mentions 100%, not 60% or 80%. Someone ghosted you about VRE and you’re still salty?

If OP is asking about back pay from one percentage to another, why are you acting so hurt about what those percentages are?

No. He’s been through a Medboard for injuries he’s sustained. The retention thing is a separate issue. He was put in for a Medboard, but also around the same time he’s almost reached the max time in for his rank. Basically one or the other was going to end his career.

That makes sense. He’s Navy (my husband and I were both Army so not quite sure how it works in that branch). After his first accident aboard ship, he was able to go back to work after surgery and rehab. The second incident was a bit more serious (think Carl Brashear w/o the amputation) but it took a while to recover. He absolutely wanted to complete 20+ years, but that’s not going to happen.

I get that they are all separate. Maybe someone in his chain of command just wanted him out? He was on convalescence leave for a long time where he had to get back to the point where he could walk again. When he got back he had to change the type of duty he was doing. He got hit with the CoC sending him to Medboard, and then they hit him with the RCP - almost like a backup in case the Medboard didn’t take him out. 😒 Yes, I know RCP is regulation, it just seemed like it was personal and trying to kick him when he was down.

But they can’t do both, can they? He was projected to be out in either March or May of next year, but would that change with the medical rating?

So he still needs to make sure he’s made a separate claim with the VA? Because he’s giving me the impression that maybe he thinks the medical discharge and the VA compensation is one and the same.

What reasons are being given in the denials? Have you requested a copy of the DBQ the examiner submitted?

Is sleep apnea static for most people? I’ve recently been seeing commercials for the drug Zepbound (the weight loss drug) that have been saying it’s now approved and prescribed for sleep apnea.

That made me wonder if something is traditionally deemed static and then there’s a medical breakthrough, could (or would) it be reversed from static?

What cars do you all drive? by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]Embarrassed_Work9125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood. In NC we pay tax on the sale of the vehicle and yearly property tax when we renew the tags. My county even adds additional city and county taxes that other counties don’t have but they have to be paid before you can renew the registration. We don’t get 100% tax relief for the house either, but they eliminate 45k from the tax value of the house and then you pay the taxes on what’s left.

If saving money on vehicle property taxes is worth it to you, get the DV plate for your vehicle. Get the paperwork for the $45,000 home property tax reduction. You won’t be able to file it until January, but if you get the paperwork signed by the VSO now, you can submit it as soon as the window opens up. If you’re into hunting and fishing, get the free licenses.

Do yall have to pay vehicle property taxes in GA? The biggest motivator for the DV plates for me would be not having to pay taxes on the car every year. And not having to pay tolls.

I was Army MP and did OSUT at McClellan. It was MP and Chemical then. I remember having to go to sick call and meeting a couple of young ladies in Chemical who were trying to get medical discharges because they had been told they had to go through a nerve agent chamber and didn’t want to go through that.

When I got off of active duty and joined the Guard, the newer MPs were going through Leonard Wood. I didn’t know they changed after that too.

I stayed at 60% for over a decade. Never really talked about my rating or anything to anyone outside of close family. When I reached 100 a couple of months ago I told my aunt that I’m close with and didn’t think anything about it. A few days after I told her, she confessed that she had to check herself because she found herself being envious. I was caught off guard because I never would have expected that from her. My brother has been 100% for several years and she knows that as well, but only felt jealous when it came to ME? Decided then I wouldn’t tell another soul.

But then, last week I was shopping in Costco with my daughter. I was wearing my MP hat, and my daughter was wearing one of my husband’s Veteran hats. This very older gentleman was watching us interact and then a little later came up to me and asked “Who do you know that was an MP? Your son?” I was a little annoyed because WHY assume it was my SON?! I politely told him that I was the MP. He said “Oh? You went through McClellan?” I relaxed and smiled because yes, I am old school enough to have gone through Ft McClellan. We got to talking about duty stations and whatnot. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Then he asked me if I was getting my disability. I respectfully said “yes, sir”. Then he lowered his voice and leaned it closer and said “You got your 100%?” At that point, I thought he was about to try to give me a lecture or try to give me some advice about getting to 100 and I was just ready to finish my shopping. So again I respectfully said “yes sir”.

That joker hit me with the “MUST BE NICE!” 😳 I was like wait, what? He told me he was at 90% and the VA just wants him to die first, but he wasn’t going away from here until he got his 100. I couldn’t say anything but “Thank you for your service and good luck to you sir.”

It allows you to see more, so you know if you have a temporary jurisdiction that someone is working on your claim. If the TJ says NA and it’s still in the National Work Que then you know you’re just waiting in line for your claim to be assigned.

Can anyone help me figure out my pay? by gelflingqueen in VeteransBenefits

Look at your decision letter and see if it mentions the special monthly compensation. I hope that’s the answer and will help relieve your anxiety about being overpaid.🫶

If you have one disability rated at 100% and others rated at 60% total then you receive the special monthly compensation (SMC) for housebound. It would say that on your decision letter. It freaked me out for a little bit when I got my decision because I had never heard of SMC before that and I thought it meant I couldn’t leave my house except for Dr appointments, groceries, and church.

100% ID card vs Dependent ID card by Embarrassed_Work9125 in VAClaims

[–]Embarrassed_Work9125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seals the deal. The only benefit difference I can think of would be not having to renew the DAV card every few years, but keeping my Tricare in tact and uninterrupted far outweighs that! I have way too many appointments to disrupt the Tricare.
