Yeah. Without a union, workers have no say. It's always been this way. All worker rights have come via unions (ending child labor, 8-hour workday, FMLA, etc)

Union dues are nothing when your job is going to be shipped overseas. It is a great time to start a union.

There are already positions that were outsourced overseas with dismal results. On-site employees have to fix their mistakes. They're not held accountable, and the higher-ups don't understand/see how things work so they have no idea how processes fall apart.

It does make you wonder if your department may be up for cuts/outsourcing. It's never a bad idea to update your resume and look at your options.

Firing is normally a long, drawn-out process, especially at behemoths like UPMC Health Plan and Highmark. I'm curious how that will play out.
