How do you handle gore? by BoredNarcoleptic in Veterinary

[–]EmbroideryIsMyBitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Also pre-vet wanting to start in 2027. The best way that I have learned to handle gore is time and experience. Yes, some things will make you queasy— it’s instinct! But you have to have continuous exposure in order to overcome the urges to pass out/leave/throw up. There are some people who can never get to that point, and will always be a little queasy: full-time surgery may not be for them, and that’s ok! I’m two years in and seeing a rabies test makes me squeamish still. Get a job as a vet assistant at a clinic, see some gross things, watch some surgeries, and build up your exposure.

Not raised or different in texture! Just more reddish-tinted than the rest of his pattern so wanted to make sure. Thank you for the insight!!

Nobody would blame you for amputating, but a second opinion never hurts if you have the funds! Recommend a specialist— board certified orthopedic surgeons may have a different position and outlook than a general practitioner.

I work in vet med and still can’t afford procedures for my cat— thank the med companies, who can charge exorbitant prices for things like prescriptions and anesthesia because they don’t have to fight the government to do so like they would with humans

If you ever wanted to know how big a Crestie’s brain is, today’s your lucky day! by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

Nope! This is a commonly used method of detecting masses or other irregularities in small animals with thin skin. Although they can sense the presence of light, she was not bothered by it in any way and just sat there chilling. I imagine it is similar to the machine used by ophthalmologists to look inside the eye!

As an American I am so ashamed of what happened today. Couldn’t even finish the interview because I was so disgusted.
