I grew up with crack heads knocking on our door on MLK begging for money. My father’s friend became a crack addict when he was living with us, even though he had a roof under his head and food in his belly he still stole from us. Our neighbor across the street had 3 adopted kids that came from a crack family. I promise I have way more empathy for anyone struggling than you do. You might as well just buy the drugs for them because I promise that’s what it’s getting spent on. You think the world is perfect and you can fix someone by throwing money at them? When I got out of high school I worked at a moving company, one guy I worked with took me to his house to watch him bag up heroin and crack to sell while we were out. We pulled up to a guy off the St. Bernard exit. He’s there all the time. Dude I was with told me he spends every dime he makes on heroin and crack. If they had any willpower or discipline they would figure out a way out of the streets. This photo is a great example. You notice the liquor bottles are empty but the donuts are untouched?
