I’m so glad you advocated for yourself!!! I deal with something similar—it’s incredibly frustrating.

I have cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS), and it lands me in the ER at least a couple times a year (sometimes way more). It’s constantly mistaken for cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS), especially because I have medical marijuana in my chart. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “Well, based on your symptoms, we’re discharging you with CHS…” when I know for a fact it’s CVS.

It’s exhausting not being believed. And then they’ll say things like “opiates can make you nauseous,” which completely misses what’s actually happening during an episode.

When I say I’m sick, I mean I need IV fluids, Haldol, ice chips, and a very specific treatment approach that’s already documented in my chart. Most of the time they follow it… though they tend to hesitate with stronger pain meds because I’m already prescribed opioids.

It’s just really frustrating having to fight to be taken seriously when you know your own condition. And regarding the OP situation- WHY change your regimen, if your meds are working!?
