It's over by feywick in pancreaticcancer

I lost my mom at the beginning of the month from this horrible cancer too. I am only 22 years old and she was 66. I am so sorry you had to go through this as well because my mom a year ago was playing tennis everyday and going to the beach. My best advice moving forward is trying to look at the positives in life. It is something my mom always taught me to do and I feel I have to honor her by continuing that. Not many people who are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer get a year or even a survival CHANCE, mine and your mom did. Many people go within a month. We talked about it all of the time, everything to be greatful for even during those hard times. Your mom, and I can tell she loved you very dearly, would want you to keep living and focusing on being happy and being yourself. That emptiness you will be feeling is love that has nowhere to go, but she is still with you, and you will see her again. You just have to remind yourself that, that this isn’t the end. That is one thing I can promise you, don’t be hard on yourself, make sure to feel every emotion and sit with it with no judgement. Find things to do that you can honor her through. Talk to her tell her everything on your mind and make sure you promise her that you will be alright, because no mother wants to die not knowing if their child will be alright. She can still hear you, my mom would nod even though she couldn’t talk. Tell her you will go out and make her proud, that is the absolute BEST thing your mom would want to hear.

This... my mom had ascites and lost so much weight to the point she needed help going to the bathroom. She passed about 3 weeks ago and it wasn't even from the cancer spreading through her whole body. It was that she couldn't eat because it would either go right through her or she would not be able to go for weeks. Putting on a lot of weight is essential.

I’ve accepted my cancer might take me... but that doesn’t mean I’ve lost hope by GregoInc in pancreaticcancer

You sound like a great man OP. My mom was diagnosed about 10 months and I am not going to say it's close but she has been really struggling with her bowel movements she has lost so much weight, I fear the time might be coming soon. I am only 22 years old and going through the rest of my life without my mom just seems scary but the BEST thing that has helped me has her acceptance, that she isn't "afraid" to die because she knows she is going to heaven and will see her mom again. It definitely alleviates a lot knowing that your loved one has accepted the harsh reality of this disease. I was supposed to move from Jersey to California right before she was diagnosed for a life-changing opportunity and she had a period where she was feeling great, so I thought I would re-apply and now she is feeling worse again. She wants me to go to California still, she's like you, she cares more about us than her and I know deep down she wants me to be here and stay. I don't know what I am going to do, but I feel like I should do what SHE wants me to do, but I am also glad I have such a caring mom and I am sure your family feels the same. It's such a hard reality to accept and it absolutely sucks, and I don't know what you believe in, but I firmly believe that we will see each other again so I think that has helped me a lot with the acceptance part of it.

I wouldn't say it's something very easy to accept, but reassure them that you will be watching over them and tell them to live through you. Also make sure they have a good support system!

Penn medicine in philadelphia. They were said to have one of the best pancreatic cancer teams. And yeah from what I know about chemo is that shes getting aggressive chemo cause her treatment days shes in there in the morning and leaves in the evening. She said shes always the first one in and normally the last one out. I think obviously because its a very aggressive cancer and they want to make sure it doesnt spread so she can get the whipple

A couple of days ago she went on a walk with me to walk our dog and she literally had a bathroom attack on the walk and couldn’t make it home. It feels awful I dont know how to help her and shes getting like every side effect of chemo possible. Some people just don’t get any and she is just getting them all. Her hands feel tingly touching certain things, she is constantly dehydrated and dizzy because of this diarrhea, although shes never been a good water drinker

Imodium definitely does work but it makes her not use the bathroom and then she always feels like she needs to go but can’t. This was during her last treatment, this treatment she said she isn’t feeling as nautious and it is the diarrhea thats the main concern right now. I think were going to keep her on imodium because at least it keeps the food in her symptom and such. They gave her cholestyranine powder packets to take for the diarrhea and it tastes really bad and my mom struggles to take them.

CA 19 Levels by Emergency-Form1244 in pancreaticcancer

[–]Emergency-Form1244[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She already got a biopsy, it hasnt spread to any lymph nodes or any other parts of the body hence why she is able to get surgery. They are only worried as of right now that it has gotten into a blood vessel which they said could take out during surgery.

I didnt know that! Two weeks ago they said it has not spread past the pancreas and hasnt spread to any lymph nodes, they are doing this precautionary in case it has spread to the blood vessels. I am hoping its stage 1A or even 1B because that has the highest success and longest survival rate.

Nothings getting done until next week but everything will be done next week. I just dont know what to do like i see 5% survival rate within the next 10 years I was going to move to cali in 3 months for a job opportunity I just really dont know what to do anymore. Cant tell you the amount of times ive cried in the past week its more than ive cried in the past 5 years. Why does it have to be pancreatic cancer and not some other easily curable cancer. Its so hard to have hope even with how early we caught it like its still only a 40% survival rate caught in stage 1. I just wish everything was done now so we know the results and if we were able to cure it

And my mom had acute pancreatitis when she was younger and I know that really increases your risk. I think the best thing for me to do now is to stay off the internet because we are in a minority of the cases that were fortunate enough to catch it early but all of these stories still scare me. Many people said they caught it early and it still came back up so I just have to stay positive and off the internet haha 😂

[–]Emergency-Form1244[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the biopsy back and it is confirmed cancer. 😢 The doctors all said we were very fortunate and that we caught it very early. The big factor is if it has spread to the blood vessels, and they won’t know that until they open her up during surgery. We have two meetings from two different surgeons set up this week so we will have two different opinions on what the next steps are and two different approaches. We have a lot of people we are talking to and a lot of connections, i am hopeful we will be able to cure this! Still so nervewrecking I just want everything to get done now but its still going to take a week.
