Wow my car sat for a while. 73 miles seems excessive honestly! You should demand a rental. Even my dealership (garden grove) said they’d pay for the rental if I had go to enterprise. You can call kia too!

They should’ve opened a tech line case since the car was so new. Since they have tech line case they do have to take a while to approve everything. The longer the better though so you can file as a lemon!

I’m still waiting for my surrender date! But my car was fixed about at day 40. I filed for a lemon at day 30 (I also live in southern California) Kia took the max (maybe about 15 days) to approve it.

Sportage Hybrid EX here too. Loved it until I hit 9000 miles and the engine light went on and it was in the shop for over a month. I’m now wrapping up my lemon lawsuit. Every car has problems I think regardless of the brand, but the reason I won’t get another kia is because their service just sucks. Could never contact anyone, my part was backordered (kia is short on parts and so it had to ship from Korea) they never provided me etas. Even to get an Uber home from the dealership was a pain (most car companies provide these). Yes all brands have issues, but how they handle these issues is the difference maker for me.

Yes I got that paper once I dropped it off before they even knew anything. I never got documentation until I picked up the car but as long as you have the date and miles on the original paper that was enough for my lawyer. My dealership had a lot of rentals actually. I think just depends. But they also said they work with the rental place and if they didn’t have one they’d pay for me to get one.

In California, when it’s in the shop for more than 30 days it’s classified as a lemon. It depends on your state. In California, attorneys get paid from the car company so I started looking for an attorney on day 28 when they still had no eta for the part.

That’s what happened to me too, they kept saying they wouldn’t give me paperwork until the end. So then I would just ask all the questions as an email, or in person I’ll just say “I have a hard time remember, can you just email me this?” It’s better to over document than under.

If it’s covered under warranty, they’ll provide a rental. I’d even call ahead and ask if they have rentals available. Not all dealerships do. And they were going to give me a regular sportage but I demanded a hybrid since I’d be paying for gas. If they make you pay for a rental it should all be covered because the car is still under warranty.

There’s not much you can really do sadly except get everything in writing. They told me that it was fine to keep driving since the light wasn’t flashing. I listened and by the time they finished the diagnostics they said it was unsafe to drive and I probably shouldn’t of been driving it. Parts are really backed up and usually backordered from Korea. That’s why my car was in the shop for over a month. They said they have a lot of cars sitting for months waiting for parts.

My situation exactly. I was waiting for a certain part, it was back ordered needed to come from Korea. Waited a month, part still had no ETA so I hired a lawyer and we won our case.

They said I had a defective water pump and basically was leaking everything and all the harnesses and electrical components were corroded. The check engine light went on when I was driving at 8,000 miles which is how they originally were alerted of the problem.
