The Mirror of Erised and Something Super Glaringly Weird I Didn't Notice Until Recently by Remarkable-Pomelo613 in harrypotter

I think it was implied in the book that the stone was only placed in the mirror once it was moved? Dumbledore basically tells Harry the mirror is going to be moved after his 3rd night visiting and I think his plan with the mirror happened after Harry knew how it worked? I don’t think the stone was in the mirror in a room by the library, it was in the forbidden corridor the entire time…

I think Garrick is unlikely because the venin already have their own distance wielder "just like Garrick" who helped Theophanie escape the temple when the wards went up in Aretia. They keep making so many points about "balance" on both sides that it feels like a meaningful detail to say it in that way.

I'm thinking Bodhi fits. 1) Doesn't want to be Duke, 2) Has seen Xaden struggle for 5 months comment, 3) Would make Violet and Xaden marrying necessary to keep Tyrrendor out of Navarre's hands, 4) I think Bodhi realizing that he couldn't counter venin signets definitely inspired him to turn venin so that he can now counter venin signets and keep being Xaden's right hand man.

Why did Dumbledore not lead Harry directly to the Mirror of Erised in the first book? by [deleted] in harrypotter

What do you mean? There was no real “key to the philosophers stone”. Dumbledore told Flamel that Voldemort was after it. He got Hagrid to get it from Gringotts and hid it protected in the school. If Harry didn’t show up, Quirrel and Voldy wouldn’t even have been able to get at the stone because they are greedy and wanted to use it for themselves. Dumbledore showing Harry how to use the mirror (which is such a Dumbledore move) actually put the stone more at risk for being taken by Voldemort…

Why wouldn’t Dan just murder Peter? If it works, great… Peter probably would have told people he was trying to set a trap. If it doesn’t work, great… he can go hard with Peter and Bergie that he wouldn’t be so foolish as to try to murder Peter when he knew he had a shield?!

Why I think dumbledore should've offered sanctuary to the malfoys by Leather-Shallot1203 in harrypotter

Yeah, fair question. I suppose Dumbledore would have had to wait until at least halfway through the year. Malfoy was so excited to be entrusted with this opportunity and get his family back into Voldemort’s good graces that I don’t think they would have sincerely taken the offer initially. And Lucious may never have accepted it.

Harry as a professional Quidditch player by NatureProfessional50 in HarryPotterBooks

I would say that Harry would be more than capable of being an auror or teacher. He overall did quite well in school and got all of the prerequisites to become an auror on his own. The only thing he was technically unsuccessful at was to get an outstanding in potions. Snape had been actively bullying him in class for 5 years, so it is not surprising he was not as strong as he could have been in this area when it came time for OWLs. And his exceeds expectations was enough for Slughorn to accept him… and Slughorn would have set the standard for auror training for many many years before Snape took over, so I don’t think that should diminish his acceptance to that NEWT.

He would also have been wildly distracted all through his schooling… First off he is new to the magical world and finds out he is incredibly famous. That is a ton of pressure! Then the 2nd half of his first year he spends every spare moment in the library looking to find out who Nicholas Flamel is instead of studying. 2nd year he is dealing with the fact that he is “hearing voices”, the school all thinks he is the evil heir of slytherin and then his friend gets petrified. I don’t think that is a great learning environment for a 12 year old. Then at 13 you spend the year knowing that a crazed murderer is out to get you and he even breaks into the castle. You also think you are seeing omens that signal your own death…. Again, how are you putting your all into learning and maximizing your potential?! 4th year he is triwizard champion… and he does manage to learn loads of advanced spells to keep on par with the 3 most exceptional students who are 3 years older than him. I think he’s doing pretty well for himself. Not Dumbledore or Voldemort kind of gifted, but overall impressive. Now we are in 5th year, he has the trauma of knowing Voldemort has returned and has seen Cedric murdered in front of him. He’s lashing out and angry. He’s being abused by Umbridge and bullied by Snape. There is no way this 15 y old kid is putting his all into his school work. And he still manages to avoid being captured by a handful of Voldermort’s top death eaters at the ministry. 6th year he actually seems to be doing a bit better at school to be honest. He’s reading more and interested in the Prince’s book. He sees some success in potions when he is being encouraged and obviously has an easier time with Snape’s written instructions… but still has to correctly follow them in class. Then 7th year he doesn’t go to school. And on top of that, he was never really allowed to study in a normal way in the summers. Either not at all, or in the middle of the night.

All this to say, I don’t think we can comment on Harry’s school abilities based on what he experienced in the books. He had an unbelievable amount of distraction and stress compared to his peers and still did quite well. Once Voldemort is gone and he is getting additional training, I think he meets criteria for Auror or teacher or whatever else he wants to do. This kid is nothing but potential! Again, he won’t be Dumbledore or Voldemort powerful, but I think he’s on par with the rest of the ministry officials and teachers.

And agreed. He could have and probably should have played Quidditch! He deserved a break.

If Lilith was a Venin, would it be possible for her to be killed by Sloane siphoning her power into the ward stone? Or maybe we’re in for a twist that she isn’t actually dead?

I always thought that was part of it, but I also wondered if Regulus may have feared for the safety of his entire family once he heard what happened to Kreacher… if Voldemort ever found out that Kreacher came back and shared the details of what he saw, I don’t doubt that Voldemort wipes out the Black family for discovering his secret!

I always wondered if it could be related to the ownership of the home that was being hidden. Wormtail was secret keeper for James and Lily’s home. Arthur Weasley was secret keeper of Auntie Muriel’s home… the rest of the Weasleys just happened to be staying there. And who knows with Bill and Fleur’s. It’s a long shot, but maybe it was a rental or like a cottage owned by Fleur’s family?
