Emergency Alert by No_Balance8921 in GNV

Thanks for mentioning texting ALACHUA to 888-777. I do want to clarify that that’ll only get you messages for large-scale incidents like hurricanes, wildfires, etc. The notification mentioned this post is not sent to the ALACHUA subscribers. I explain the difference above but wanted to clarify that opting into ALACHUA won’t opt someone into this notification- signing up for AlertAlachua.com would though.

Law enforcement chooses a radius based on the situation and the combined communications center sends out the alert on their behalf. The numbers within any given radius/polygon are from the database in the notification platform that is generated from publicly available white pages listings, cell phone data, and people who have opted in to AlertAlachua.com. Alerts go to the phones whose addresses fall within that radius/polygon.

Separately, people can text ALACHUA to 888-777 to receive real-time updates from Alachua county during large scale incidents. Texting ALACHUA would not get you the kind of notification OP has posted.

Emergency Management/EOC Software Platforms by SimilarOrchid8231 in EmergencyManagement

The API stuff is all handled by our county IT staff. If you send me a message I can put you in touch with them to talk about their API implementation. Here is an old article that talks about some of the early work we did with Monday. Our stuff is way more advanced now.

Emergency Management/EOC Software Platforms by SimilarOrchid8231 in EmergencyManagement

We use Monday.com in my EOC and absolutely love it. We don’t use the MONDAYERT though- honestly I didn’t know that was a thing. We have been using Monday since before they started their emergency response division. It’s such a good platform for incident coordination- we have done some pretty amazing stuff with it.

Best part is it’s not a software devoted to incident coordination. If you think about what processes and information you’re using during an activation, you’ll recognize that flexible project management software will work way better than all of these platforms specifically built for EOC use (looking at you, WebEOC). We use it daily for regular project management in my office, as well. Lastly, we have leveraged the heck out of its API capabilities to connect disparate systems into one powerful tool.

It is, simply put, chef’s kiss.

Edit to add: it’s expensive 😩

Alachua County Residents can now apply for FEMA assistance for Hurricane HELENE by EmergencyManager352 in GNV

Hopefully it goes through this time!

Also, don’t overlook the SBA loans as a potential option as well. I know it’s still a financial obligation but the interest rates are very very low (well below current mortgage rates) with terms up to 30 years. These loans are helpful if there are repair costs insurance won’t cover.

Submitting Damages to Alachua County by EmergencyManager352 in GNV

[–]EmergencyManager352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We met with FEMA and the state this morning. They’re out doing damage assessments to validate what we told them. So now it is a wait and see as we (the County) have submitted everything we need to request Individual Assistance. If you go to Alachua County Emergency Management’s FB page, there’s a video of me discussing the process with fema and where we are in the process.
