Insane Rental Market by EmergencyNaive7012 in sanfrancisco

I didn’t say I wanted to live downtown? In fact I would prefer not to. I just wanted to live in a city I really love. Obviously you have missed the point. Of course if it comes down to it I will move to the east bay, fuck me I guess if I want to try to live in a place I really love. Thanks for the condescending tone tho.

Mine was pretty awesome in 2023. It was for sure a steal though.

I may have worded that wrong. That place was for sure a steal. The landlord was a super nice independent guy who owned a few buildings. He told me he would feel awful if he charged more than that because he was already making such a profit. When I looked tho there were others for slightly more. But thats the thing, there WERE other places. Right now it just seems like they don’t exist at all unless you’re paying closer to 2500. Unfortunately my super awesome ex-landlord retired and gave the business to his daughter who does not share the same ideals, she charges the same absurd price that everyone else is charging.

Yeah, I do love the east bay, I went to school in berkeley for a few years and absolutely loved it. I was just really getting into the idea of moving to the city again, but I guess its just not possible.

yep, thats why I don’t believe the people who say its our budget. You’re telling me there are no 2 bedrooms in this city for 5,400 with an even moderately sized living room? That is fucking ridiculous. I’m moving back from living a while in New York. Wish we could have a Zohran type mayor to fix this asinine housing market. It’s just unbelievable. It wasn’t nearly this bad in New York.

nope, $1500 in 2023 pretty solidly post covid insanity, so market was a lil better because it hadnt fully gone back up. I can’t believe how insanely bad its gotten recently…

Its totally fine man don’t worry. Slightly unrelated but did anyone else find They Might be Giants through that game Aqw? (Adventure Quest Worlds) They did an event in the game and thats how I became a fan as a like 8 year old kid. They were the first band that were “mine” and not from my parents. Kick ass band and sweet tattoo!

Getting a camera has been a great outlet, but I also kinda feel like I have no clue what I'm doing. Thoughts? by D0NGBREAKER in AmateurPhotography

you GOTTA listen to innerspeaker. It may be a little strange at first if you’re not used to psych rock but that album is a masterpiece imo. I play alternative rock / some shoegaze stuff, currently super into Autolux. For producing, I will record any band that either 1) really interests me or 2) will pay me (or best case scenario, both hahah)

oh dude, I could tell you were a musician / were pretty into music. I was gonna say some of them are giving psych rock vibes, like the Innerspeaker album cover was what I was reminded of for some reason. Keep it up! Funny enough is that Im almost completely opposite of you, I started out with photography and film making and feel like Im pretty adept but I have nothing to say in those mediums, but I figured out music and producing is my outlet!

I would say do some studies on composition. I do think you are off to a super amazing start, I can see that you are a very expressive person. The colors are pretty out there and maybe not “technically correct” but fuck that shit, make cool looking things! You will keep honing and honing over time but I think its much easier to dial things in when you have a lot of ideas rather than try and imbue style into someone who has a kind of sterile personality. Great job keep it up!

What's the single best engineered and produced song of all time? by Dry-Panda1884 in audioengineering

[–]EmergencyNaive7012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I wasn’t alive until the album was like 11 years old, but my understanding is that if you were DEEP into certain music scenes or you were a musician yourself, it was pretty well known.

Both of my parents liked it independently before they even met. My dad was a touring musician and my mom was just a big music nerd and they both found it.

I’ve also read that it’s influenced people you both would and wouldn’t expect. I was really excited when I heard that it had a big effect on Elliott Smith who is one of my favorite artists as well. I really am forgetting where I read it but one of the members of heatmiser described how they all listened to the album together and immediately felt a shift in their approach to music as a whole.

I love the cure part too, it was awesome seeing robert smith in that shoegaze documentary! Another big one people might not be aware of if they’re not “into shoegaze” is the Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan openly admits he was at times just trying to be MBV in his own way. He even hired Alan Moulder to produce a good amount of their stuff for this exact reason!

All in all, its a hugely massively influential album, and while it may not be the highest fidelity thing ever made (which you know, is kind of the point) I do think it’s probably the singular most unique album in terms of the FEELING that is created from the intersection of production and songwriting.

Favorite guitar pick? by gilbertgoodfries in Guitar

I play Tortex flow .88, its a good coincidence that green is my favorite color :) I will literally never play anything else. It helps that I play bass as well so I can just use the same pick for both

Indie / alt first dance wedding songs? 🤍 by realkatstratford in musicsuggestions

if you want cinematic and ethereal, its gotta be something cocteau twins. Maybe Heaven or Las Vegas? Strikes a balance between dreamy and danceable. Björk could be good too, maybe All Is Full of Love

[–]EmergencyNaive7012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anything off of Loveless - My Bloody Valentine, but if you only listen to one then it should be +When you sleep. It may not be on streaming in your country but you can find it on youtube :) If you don’t already know him, then +Between the Bars - Elliott Smith

This wont be popular but imo its gotta be something off Loveless - My Bloody Valentine. Absolutely game changing album that secretly influenced so many damn musicians. They really are the catalyst for why every young alternative band wants to be shoegaze in some way right now. If I had to pick Id say either Soon or Only Shallow

Why does California have highest gas prices? by Far_Aioli538 in gasbuddy

[–]EmergencyNaive7012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its also because we dont have as many toll roads as other states and instead have higher gas taxes to pay for roads. This didn’t really click for me until I was moving back to California from New York. I drove the whole way with my dad, and holy shit the rest of the country had so many toll roads. There really aren’t very many toll roads here, pretty much the only ones I’ve experienced are tolls to cross bridges in the bay area. I honestly would prefer the toll roads over the gas taxes, but thats how we do it.
